“What the hell? Who told you to do that?” I yelled over my brother on the phone.
“I don’t need your frickin’ permission to enroll you in a school,” he replied calmly.
“You know that I can’t do that! School means people. People mean questions. Questions mean suspicion. And, suspicion means game over!” I hissed, rubbing my temples.
There was a pause on the other end. I could practically imagine my brother rolling his eyes.
“Look, Kris, I am not going to let you ruin your whole life because of one incident. You may hate me now but, you are going to thank me later. And, don’t worry about suspicion. I am pretty sure no one will bother you after coming face to face with that scary expression you always carry.”
It was my turn to roll eyes. “Thanks, bro. will keep that in mind,” I said sarcastically, then, “anyways, what about the cops? What if they find me here in Bellwood?”
“Don’t worry about that. I have taken care of that. For now, they have a false lead somewhere far away from Bellwood,” he assured me.
I sighed and plopped down on the single bed in the drab colored room of the girl’s hostel I was staying in.
“Hey, Kris?” my brother voiced seriously.
“Hmm?”
“It’s new year today. You should go out and have fun like a normal teenager,”
“No, thank you. I would rather stay cooped up in this boring hostel room.”
“That’s what you have been doing since Christmas! You can’t do that to yourself! Do you want me come there and-”
“No!” I cut him off, sitting up straight, “don’t even think about coming here!”
He chuckled, “If you don’t do as I say, then, I am coming,” he sang.
“Bloody blackmailer!” I muttered angrily, “Fine, I will go and crash some stupid high school party!”
“Don’t say like that!” he gasped dramatically, “you are a high school student yourself! Also, don’t drink and stay away from-”
“-boys” I finished, “yeah! I know. Stop playing the over protective brother, I can take care of myself! Bye! I hate you!”
“Hate you too!” was the last thing I heard before hanging up.
I checked the time. 4 pm.
I decided to take an evening walk instead of going to some party.
Walk be damned. I better crash this party.
That was my thought when I laid eyes upon the grand mansion where hordes of high school students were entering in party attire and from where music was blaring into the streets.
What really attracted me was the smell of delicious food entering my nostrils. My stomach was jumping in delight. It was so tired of having the same boring stale food they served in the hostel.
I glanced at my dress: simple jeans, striped top and a jacket. It seemed good enough.
So, without further ado, I walked through the high metal doors of the elegant mansion.
Before I could enter into the house through the main gate, my eyes fell on the crowd lounging in the backyard by the swimming pool. It looked like a pool party was in progress.
Great! I could easily raid the food supply in kitchen now. At least, I won’t have to worry about nasty kids poking their unwanted noses.
My jaw dropped to the floor when I entered the mansion. It was like a frickin’ dream, no, even better than that. Just taking in the whole space with my eyes was giving me a headache.
How the hell was I going to find the kitchen in this vast maze of a mansion?
“Like what you see?”
My head jerked to the left when I heard the arrogant voice. A guy who looked about my age was leaning against the wall, giving me a cocky smirk.
When I didn’t reply, he walked towards me, extending his hand.
“Hi, I am Matt,” he introduced himself, “I am the owner of this place and the host of this party,”
I folded my arms across my chest, giving him a blank look.
Dude was lying. If he was the host of the party, then, he sure as hell would know who were invited. Why hadn’t he already thrown me out for crashing his party?
He retracted his hand away when he realized that I had no intention of shaking it. But, his slow brain didn’t seem to get the hint, because next I knew, he was proceeding for a hug.
“The hell, dude?” I shrieked, taking ten steps away from him, “keep your hands to yourself if you want them intact by the end of the day!”
He raised his hands in surrender, “As you wish! I was just trying to help you. You looked a bit lost.”
I took a second to think over his words. Maybe, he could help me…by showing me the kitchen.
But, what if he wanted a share of my food in return?
After taking in his form, I decided that I could easily tackle him if it came to that.
“Show me the kitchen, will you?” I asked him with sweet smile.
“This is our destination!” matt announced when we finally reached the kitchen after two minutes.
“Our?” I voiced, turning to matt, “sorry, dude, but, you ain’t getting a share in my food.”
Matt gave me a creepy grin, “No need to. You can give me a share in something else.”
Oh no, he didn’t!
He remained unaffected by the glare I was giving him, and leered down at me.
“You are going to regret saying those words, you piece of a trash!” I growled.
After that, it was my fist and his face. Lucky for me that he didn’t even put up a fight. He just dodged and ran. I chased after him, with every intent to teach him a lesson.
I had to give it to him; he was a pretty good runner. I had no idea that he would bring me to the backyard, where all the party goers were.
An idea formed in my head, when I saw the swimming pool and matt running towards it.
“Hey, listen!” I called out a random guy who was passing from beside me.
The guy halted and gave me a questioning look.
“Do you see that guy?” I pointed in matt’s direction, “he was asking to be tossed into the pool, earlier. Will you be so kind as to help me with it and fulfill his wish?”
“Of course,” the guy said in a cheerful tone, “I still have to get back at Matt for hitting on my girlfriend last week.”
Uh oh. It seemed like this Matt dude had a long history.
Without wasting any more time, the guy and I ganged up on matt from two sides. I caught Matt’s head, while the guy who was helping me, caught his legs, lifting him off the ground.
We ignored Matt’s cry of protest and tossed him away in the pool on completing the count of three.
Oh God! The satisfaction it brought me to hear the loud splash when he landed in the water!
I walked ahead, dusting the invisible dust off my hands.
“Who the hell invited this mutt?” a furious looking guy who was standing at the edge of the pool, snarled.
“I would like to know too,” I said, rolling up my sleeves and glaring at matt, or should I now say…mutt.
“Um, you kicked him in the pool?” a pretty girl asked me.
“Of course,” I nodded, “he was asking for it!”
Just when I was thinking of more ways to make mutt suffer, something unexpected happened.
Something that I would never have thought would happen.
The hottie who had helped me with the cops the other day, appeared out of nowhere, rubbing his hands, “Hey, guys! I heard some noises. Is there a fight going on? I would like to join,” he declared.
Of course, he would, I thought to myself. But, what came out of my mouth instead was:
“Oh, shit!”
All eyes were on me, as soon as I uttered those words. The hottie’s mouth fell open when his eyes landed on me.
Couldn’t blame him. I was pretty scary to look at.
“You!” the hottie growled.
Oh no, he couldn’t recognize me! All hell will break lose if that happens. Especially, after I paid him for his kindness by punching him and ditching him in the end.
I let out a nervous chuckle, “Me? Um, I think you have the wrong girl, buddy,” I squeaked, scurrying away from the pool area.
Oh my God! Why? Why did I always found myself in such impossible situations?
My feet automatically took me to the big metal gates that led to the street.
“Hey! Wait up!”
I increased my pace when I heard the hottie’s voice getting closer.
“Wait up, damn it!”
This time I had to jump because he had caught my hand from behind.
“What is your problem, hott-buddy?” I screamed, when he turned me around roughly.
“You frickin’ owe me answers!” he said, glowering at me.
“What answers?” I tried to play it cool, “I told you already, you have the wrong girl! I have never even seen you before.”
He scoffed, “Right. This is what you tell the guy who went against cops for you,”
My heart started beating louder in my chest. He was correct, he deserved answers. But, that couldn’t happen…I couldn’t blow up my cover!
I tried to get my hand out of his firm hold, but, to no avail. He only yanked me closer to himself, his electric blue eyes searching mine.
“I am pretty sure I have the right girl. Only you call me hot-buddy,” he said.
Oh no! He had the wrong idea! I needed to stop thinking of him as a hottie or someday I was going to make a big fool out of myself.
“I will ask only once, who the hell are you?” he asked, more calmly this time.
Just when I was starting to think I had no other option left, I heard the engine of a car running. From the corner of my eye, I saw a girl starting her car to drive out of the mansion.
Maybe, I could ask her for lift.
The only problem was the death like hold hottie had on my arm.
“You know what?” I said, meeting his eyes, “I think you have forgotten to take today’s dose of baby formula. That’s why you are imagining things.”
That made him instantly drop my arm, as if it was burning him, and he glanced back at me shockingly.
I seized the opportunity and hitched ride with the girl whose car was now passing by us.
Only when I was inside my hostel room, did I take a breath of relief. I decided to take a shower to ease my nerves and worries.
But, that could really happen. Because, when I emerged ten minutes later from the bathroom, I was in for a big shock.
Hottie was casually lying on my bed, smirking and waving at me.
