Chapter 3 3:Signed Papers

Aria POV

“Come on Aria, sign the paper, just incase something happens, remember Dad will support you” Selene urges me, her voice sily but insistent.

My fingers hover avouve the paper on the polished table. After last night, this morning I woke up to Nicholas and Selene dragging me to the library to sign a voluntary confession of the accident from last night.

My chest tightens, the libarly walls seeming closer than ever. “I dont know Selene, nobody has said anything, is this really necessary?” I lift a brow at her.

Nicholas moves closer to me, his hand resting softly on my open skin, a white halter dress hugging my neckline, “Ari” he whispers the let name he always uses on me, his voice softens, just for me. “It’s only for now, just until pass over properly, we’ll fix it together, I promise you baby” he bends and places a kiss on my forehead.

I swallow, panic already rising in my throat, they are right, dad will support me, he can handle anything.

I turn to look at Nicholas one more time and something flashes in his eyes, i can't decipher it but I'll talk to him later about it.

“Fine, I'll sign it” I pick up the pen and quickly put my signature down.

I turn to Selene who has a wide smile on her face, relief flooding through her eyes, “See? There's nothing to worry about Ari” she bends and presses a cold kiss on my forehead.

Before I can reply them, they grab the document and head outside, shutting the door behind me.

I head down for breakfast but unfortunately my dad already left for work.

“Ari do you want to have breakfast here, in the garden or in your room?” the head maid, Mrs Allister turns to me as I enter.

“Where is Nick and Selene? I thought they came down for breakfast?” I lift a brow in her direction.

Before she can reply, the TV screen blazes to life and a newscaster standing in the middle of the road starts the news.

“Yesterday at the early hours of 11pm, an accident occurred in this road, killing a resident of the area, Mr John” he blinks holding his mike tightly

I stumble backwards when the camera pans to the body being wrapped into an ambulance. My heart stops and the document I just signed flashes in front of my face.

“The police are in the area and it seems the cameras were only able to capture the car as it left the scene in a hurry after causing this horrible death” he continues

Everything blurs and my skin heats up immediately, I have to tell dad, I have to warn Nick and Selene.

“The police have captured a footage of the driver and the car” he continues but I'm already heading upstairs, my heart pounding in a panic.

I head into my bedroom only to find everything upside down. My heart shatters in that moment. My jewelry, my emergency cash I keep under my bed, all my documents, are all gone.

“What is happening?” I rush out. I grip my phone and try to call Nick first but he doesn't pick, the call rings til I hear his voicemail

I swallow, panic in my throat, did the police already arrest them? I'm sure whatever evidence they found will involve Selene hitting that man.

My fingers vibrate as I call Selene. But her number also goes to voicemail. I'm about to call Dad and find out where he is as I can't call my evil step-mother but Selene sends me a text.

“Meet us bu the old bridge at the park, Nicholas wants to explain everything. Please be quick Aria” I read

My heart can't stop beating, I hold my chest and rush downstairs and Mrs Allister tries to stop me

“Mam…you won't have breakfast anymore” she frowns concern on her face

I shake my head, after my mom died at the age of 7, for 3 years she took care of me before my dad remarried Selene’s mom.

Selene mom is a very angry, evil and beautiful woman. Which she definitely used to her advantage, she had a previous failed abusive marriage where she had Selene and then married my dad, and they have been married now for 13 years.

“I’ll be back soon Mrs Allister, I'll have lunch instead” I nod at her and quickly grab my car keys.

The parkr is brighter, the leaves glistening underneath the morning sun. I look behind me, shifting nervously hoping I dont look suspicious.

Nicholas and Selene wait at the corner of the abandoned bridge. The one currently being under construction. I nod in assurance, that way nobody can see us discussing incase they discover an evidence of us at the accident.

I move closer to them and two huge men dressed in black appear from behind them.

I halt at first trying to read their faces but they are covered from head to toe. I frown stepping closer to them, my coat tied around my body.

“Aria” Nicholas calls softly, his had raised in a greeting

“What is this? What is happening?” I loft a brow in question, referring to the two huge men behind them.

Selene tilts her head, an almost playful smile curves in her lips, “We thought you’d be quicker Aria. You always did take your time to understand things” she chuckles

My mouth turns dry, “Selene, my room, it was torn apart, my jewelry, my money-” I start

“Gone, yes, that they are” Selene interrupts me, “We need that to look a certina way, it makes what happens next easier dear”
