Chapter 1

Abigail's POV

My friend dropped me off at my apartment, smiling. "Get some rest, Abigail. You deserve it." I smiled back, waving goodbye as she drove away in her Hummer. I watched until her car disappeared, then started walking towards my apartment, my coat getting covered in snowflakes.

I was excited to surprise my boyfriend, Liam. I had been away on a business trip for what felt like forever, and I couldn't wait to see him. I had been thinking about him nonstop, remembering the promotion I got and how I helped my company succeed in Asia. I felt proud and happy, but also exhausted.

As I reached my apartment building, I wondered how Liam would react to my sudden return. I had tried calling him on my way home, but the calls kept disconnecting. I felt a little nervous as I walked up to our second-floor apartment. I put my key in the lock, but when I turned it, the door wasn't locked. My heart started beating faster. This wasn't normal. We always locked our door.

I pushed the door open slowly, feeling a bit scared. The apartment was dark, and the curtains were closed. The TV was on, playing a movie, and I could hear soft music and smell food. But where was Liam?

I took a deep breath and stepped inside, calling out, "Liam...Honey, I'm home." But there was no answer. I felt my heart racing as I walked further into the apartment, my eyes adjusting to the dark.

I picked up a bat, ready to defend myself, and whispered, "Liam, I'm home." I moved slowly, looking around the empty room, but he didn't answer. I called out again.

"Liam….. Honey, I’m home….” I whispered but there was only silence. I got more nervous, thinking something might be wrong.

I crept towards our bedroom, my heart racing. But as I got closer, I heard strange noises - the bed creaking and weird moans.

Heart beating frantically, I tiptoed slowly towards the door and swung it open , and what I saw made my heart stop. Liam was in bed with someone else! I felt like I'd been punched in the chest. I sobbed, my voice shaking.

“Aah! Liam go slower… Aaah!”

“I’m… At the… Peak… Urgh… Can’t expect… Urgh… Me to go… Slower now…” Liam groaned in return as he pounded away, obviously unaware of my presence.

The raspy tone of the cheating couple in my bed faded as I clutched my chest in pain. I could have sworn I heard my heart breaking into pieces.

I sobbed painfully…. there was this hollow ache in my chest.

"Liam, you cheating bastard!"

“Oh fuck!”

Liam cursed as he quickly got off the woman and turned to me, saying

“Babe, it’s not what you think. I….”

But I couldn't bear to look at him. My eyes turned to the woman in bed, and my heart sank. It was my sister, Zoey.

“Zoey!”

She sat up, covering herself with the sheet, her face bright red with shame.

"How could you both do this to me?" I screamed, feeling betrayed and hurt.

I grabbed the nearest thing - a lamp - and threw it at Liam, but he dodged out of the way just in time. It crashed to the floor, pieces scattering everywhere.

"Baby, calm down, please," Liam tried to approach me, his hands outstretched.

But I backed away, my eyes blazing.

"Explain what? How you cheated on me with my own sister? How could you, Liam?" My voice cracked with pain and anger.

"You were cheating on me with this hoe!" I spat, my voice venomous.

Liam opened his mouth to speak, but Zoey suddenly stood up, her eyes flashing.

"Abigail, don't you dare call me a hoe!" she snapped, her voice defiant.

I glared at her, my anger boiling over. "How can you even try to justify this, Zoey? You're my sister! You're supposed to have my back, not sleep with my boyfriend!"

Zoey took a step closer, her face twisted in a snarl. "You don't know the whole story, Abigail. It's not what it looks like."

I laughed, a harsh, mocking sound. "Oh, I'm sure it's not! You're probably going to tell me that you and Liam were just having a friendly nap, right?"

Zoey's eyes narrowed, but before she could respond, Liam spoke up. "Baby, I—"

But I cut him off, my voice rising. "Why did you do this, Liam? How could you cheat on me with my own sister?"

Liam's eyes dropped, and he shuffled his feet, looking guilty. "I...I don't know, Abigail. It was a mistake."

I laughed again, tears streaming down my face. "A mistake? You call this a mistake?

“Baby, you were always away on business trips….I really tried my best… But I couldn’t resist the urge…” He stammered, his eyes darting back and forth like a guilty animal.

“Look, it’s snowing heavily outside… I needed a source of heat in this chilly weather…”

I laughed, a harsh, mocking sound, my arms crossed over my chest. "Oh, sure, Liam. You needed a source of heat in this chilly weather?" I sneered, my voice heavy with sarcasm.

"And you couldn't use the duvet? What's the point of even having one, then, you bastard?"

Liam's face turned bright red as he stumbled over his words. "Baby, you know that isn't the source of heat I'm talking about...I mean body heat..."

I cut him off, my voice rising to a shout. "Get out!!!"

Liam's mouth hung open like a fish, his eyes wide with fear. He seemed to shrink back, his shoulders hunched in defeat. He glanced at Zoey, then back at me, before quickly bending down to pick up his clothes. His movements were jerky and nervous, like a scared rabbit scurrying for cover.

I stood tall, my arms still crossed, my eyes blazing with anger. I couldn't bear to look at him or my sister any longer. The sight of them together made my stomach turn.

"Just get out!

That means you have no right to leave with my belongings. I bought those clothes. So leave this place with your mistress this instant!”

Liam’s eyes widened in shock. I couldn’t possibly chase him out in his underwear. But, yeah I did, despite his pleas.

Just then, I heard a knock on my door and wondered who it was……
