Chapter Four: The fatal attraction
Amelia's POV
It's been over a year since I've been in the Azure Moon Pack and it's been nothing short of hell for me as the man who saved my life turned out to be the alpha of the pack and also cruel and ruthless.
It wasn't easy fitting in at first, I got to learn new things about our kind, the hierarchy, how things work, full moon, mates, the tradition and all that.
Alpha Thrian however constantly reminded me of our three-year pact, only after I've made myself useful that I was allowed to leave. I was provided decent education on business by Beta Ryker who was a complete contrast of Thrian.
Many times have I tried to run away but get caught even before I make it out of the mansion so I have him. I still resent Thrian for keeping me away from my father who is definitely dead but I needed answers. The first few weeks after I got here was the worst.
“Are you fine?” Ryker asked, jolting me out of my train of thoughts.
“I'm good, thanks.” I replied, faking a smile.
He chuckled softly and made a quick phone call and in less than two minutes, some men brought a bowl of ice cream and some chocolate biscuits.
“Thank you.” I thanked him as I munched on them, happily.
Ryker has been thr closest to a friend that I have, he always checked up on me and took me on yours around the pack.
“Is he okay? He seems pretty injured to me.” I asked, referring to Thrian.
“He'll be fine, you should be grateful he took the hit for you, you'd be half-dead by now.”
I snickered. “That sour face? It's just had karma catching up with him.”
Ryker laughed. “You shouldn't refer to the alpha as such. He's a less bad person when you're get to know him.”
“Obviously, Marian thinks he's a darling, how does such pretty ladies fall for douches like him?” I scoffed, fired up at the memory of her kissing him. It made me unexplainable furious.
“Marian is his fiance and we all don't like her but it's complicated.”
“He has a fiance?” I blurted.
“Like I said, it's complicated. I have to go now, there's a lot that needs to be done. I'll see you around Amy, stay away from the shadows and deserted places, don't go anywhere alone too.” he advised, worriedly.
I nodded in approval to his words and waved him goodbye as he sprung to his feet and leave. I sighed as I was left alone and seethed quietly. The thought of Thrian kissing the woman bugged me.
Later that night, I was exhausted and needed to finish up my work at the front porch but on arrival, I saw something move move swiftly just few meters away from me.
“Hello, is anyone there?” I called out.
I heard a little tweak and then a sob, I got curious and decided against all common sense to leave the safety of the mansion and go check it out. The little ruffle behind the bushes morphed into a ferocious growl and a wolf leapt out, scratching a portion of my face.
Falling backwards on my butt, my eyes widened in horror as I saw the gory wolf barring it's teeth at me, sticky saliva dripping from it's jaws. I retreated backwards, slowly but it trapped me with a hind, delivering a blow to my left leg. Frozen with shock, I couldn't let out a cry of help.
Plop, bang!
“Get away from her!” A loud voice thundered.
In the blink of an eye, the wolf was tossed away like a puppy and I saw Thrian lit with fury under that moonlight, delivering blows after fatal blow to the wolf before ripping a huge portion of it's body off, leaving it half dead and writhing in pain.
Ryker arrived at the scene almost immediately as well and he looked at the remains of the wolf and then at me. “Are you okay?” He asked, quietly.
I nodded my head slowly and then he walked up to Thrian. “I'll take care of him.”
Thrian reluctantly retreated and moved closer to me. “What part of not going out at night or alone don't you understand?” He growled and I was more scared.
“I'm sorry, I was curious to see-”
“Don't you dare go against me, ever again!” He barked, interjecting me. I whimpered as he squatted and like me like a child.
“Ryker.” Thrian called out, as if passing a secret signal as he began to walk towards the mansion, carrying me in his arms.
“You have my word.” Ryker responded.
Barely had he taken few steps that the wolf howled and tried to charge towards us but Ryker caught it and yanked it against a tree, it slipped to the ground and morphed back to a gory looking human then he pointed what's left of his severed finger at me.
“She's the one isn't she? Your time is up Alpha Thrian, we are-”
Plop, his head rolled to the ground as Ryker chopped it off and Thrian didn't say any word. He carried me still and took me straight to his chambers. I remained mute as he brought out a first-aid box and helped clean my wound, leaving a plaster on the cut.
“Be careful out there, Amelia, what would I do if something bad were to happen to you?” He said, quietly.
“I didn't-”
“It's fine how, sleep.” He instructed, with great care and concern. He laid me on his bed, covered me with the duvet and patted my head like I was his dear child. I was still in shock but I felt relieved by his presence and didn't know when I feel asleep.
The next morning when I woke up, he was already dressed and seated at his desk not faraway from the bed.
“Good morning Amelia, did you sleep well?” He greeted, taking me by surprise.
“Good morning, what happened?” I asked rhetorically, my memory of that past night been hazy.
He snickered softly and kept turning the pages of a document he was going through. “You went against my rules and almost got yourself killed.”
I instinctively touched my face as it stung a little and felt a plaster on my face which brought back the memories and my face flushed red with embarrassment. “Alpha Thrian, I'm sorry.” I apologized, getting out of bed.
A sudden knock on the door made me regain my composure, aware of my surroundings and he consented whoever he was to come in. Ryker walked in, looking worried and greeted me with his eyes.
“Good morning Alpha.” He greeted humbly.
“Is everything ready for the event?” Thrian snapped.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Good.”
Thrian stood up and made to leave.
“Alpha Thrian, thank you for saving my life.” I called after him and he halted, turning around to face him.
“Thank you? You disobeyed me, you could have been killed or worse kidnapped which will cost me a lot. If you dare go against my orders one more time, I'll do worse than what that rogue did to you, do you understand?” He threatened.
“What?” I blurted.
“Clean the room, change the sheets or burn them, you've contaminated my room with your presence.” He snidely added before walking out on me.
I scoffed, unable to believe the guts of that man. One moment he's risking his life to save mine, the next he's ripping off body parts for me, allowing me to sleep in his bed and then kicking me out like I'm a parasite or something.
Few hours later, I was done cleaning his room and doing as he said so I retreated to my quarters, determined to investigate things later. A sharp knock on the door interrupted my thoughts and I opened up to see a courier standing at my doorsteps, holding a package.
“What are you doin-”
“Get dressed!” A firm voice ordered.
Thrian stepped forward and snatched the package from the courier, pushed past me and shut the door behind us. “There's a dress in there and you have about fifteen minutes before the make-up artist gets here, get dressed.” He ordered, authoritatively.
I snickered, confused and irritated. “Excuse me, what?”
“Did I stutter?”
“No, you don't get to save and also treat me like trash the next moment or walk into my room and order me around alpha Thrian!” I retorted.
He looked pissed and massaged his temples impatiently. “I don't get it, you won't let me live and neither will you let me be close to you, you don't want me to ask questions yet you're always secretly protecting and watching over me because -”
I was cut off as he suddenly grabbed my shoulders and looked me in the eye.
“I don't have much time to explain things to you so just do as I say and get dressed, mate!” He growled, his eye colors changing instantly.
‘Mate!’ My wolf growled in my head as well.
