Juniper
"You can have a seat on my bed Evangeline! Jeremy will you come help me stack all of these boxes at the end of my bed?"
Jeremy and Juniper quickly got to work and surprisingly ridded one side of the room of the clutter.
"So where did you come from?" Juniper looked over at me as she was sorting through the boxes. Should I be telling them everything about me right now?
"I just came from the city, I was going to college there and decided to come here since I was offered a scholarship." I hope that was enough of an explanation for her.
"That's nice! I started here around a year and a half ago, I was also a transfer student but I came from the other side of the country."
Okay so they paired me with another transfer student. Not too bad, at least someone can relate to me a bit.
"What major are you? I am a dance major and am on the cheerleading squad. Jeremy over here is cyber security, and is my hot nerd!" Juniper smiled at Jeremy who gave a snort and went back to folding up the clothes from the boxes.
"I’m majoring in parks and recreation management. I hope to become a park ranger one day." Juniper gave me a puzzled look like I had just grown another head. Was it a rare major here? It wasn't too large back in the city but it wasn't a rare thing to want to do.
"That's interesting. I think we only have a couple of others who I know of that major in that. Lots of people are normally in the science field like Jeremy or they do art and dance like me! Maybury is known for their art and dance school which is why I came here."
"Cool. So if there's a cheerleading team, is there a football team?" Not that I was any interested in football I just wanted to keep our conversation away from me and more on her and the school.
"Oh sure! There is football, basketball, tennis, archery, cheerleading, and gymnastics, though most people are either into football or cheerleading. The school isn't massive but there's enough to keep us in the league for now." Juniper sighed and continued sorting through her boxes which contained more cheerleading items to no surprise.
"How many students go here?" I asked. I had done some research into Maybury, but I still wasn't sure how many students were in attendance when the town I drove into was as ghostly as it gets.
"I would say around 7,000? Roughly?"
"Really? How are there so many people in here but no one in the town? I drove through this morning and no one was there, or as far as I could tell."
Juniper and Jeremy both gave each other a glance and then quickly went back to what they were doing. Did I say too much?
"There are people in town, but not many. Most of us live far from Maybury. Have you gotten a tour of Maybury yet? Oh I would love to give you the tour, say yes Evangeline!"
So there were people who lived in town? Did students not have to go into town for anything? Was Juniper keeping something from me? I guess I would have to dig later because a tour sounded like a good idea especially with my first class starting this upcoming Monday.
"Sure, why not." Juniper squealed making me cover my ears and wince at just how loud she was. Jeremy seemed unfazed which told me she did this a lot.
"Great!! Let's get started with the courtyard, and then once we're done with the tour we can bring your stuff up."
Juniper grabbed my hand and yanked hard enough to pull me off the bed. What have I gotten myself into?
