Chapter 13

Annalise nodded her head, She could not help being touched, When she had been with Dalton, he did not even bother to do these things to her. He had always been looking for ways to complain about her.

Thinking about Dalton, she was suddenly in a bad mood, she did not want to think about that man, they had been going out for just five months but no matter what, she was expecting him to be by her side when she was at her lowest point. But he just broke up with her and told her that she was careless. What kind of a person does that?

Zayn looked at her face and noticed the change in her countenance. She had been smiling not long ago, now she had a dark frown on her face. What could have upset her? Did he do something wrong? Or was it because of what happened that day when she quit her job? He really wanted to know what was bothering her.

"What happened to you, Annalise? You were fine just a second ago, Did I do something to get you angry? You can tell me what it is," Zayn urged. If he did something to upset her, he would make sure to apologize.

Annalise looked up at him. She could hear the panic in his voice. She did not know why but seeing him like that, asking her if he had done something to make her upset made her feel bad for him. He did not do anything wrong to her. She was just reminded of a relationship that did not work out.

"No, I'm sorry. I was just reminded of something that happened before. You don't have to worry it has nothing to do with you. I'm not upset with you either. I'm sorry for zoning out like that," she said, she wasn't one who would take out her grievances on others.

Zayn smiled when he saw that he was not the cause of whatever made her upset. What made him even more happy was when he saw that she was back to normal. It meant that whatever had been bothering her was out of her mind now right?

He did not know why but now that she was with him, he wanted her to think of him and nothing else. Both of them concentrated on their food. Zayn had been there before, but for some reason, the food seemed to be more delicious that day than before.

The two of them were about to finish when Zayn started talking again. "I sincerely want to apologize for what happened at your old workplace the other day. I'm really sorry for that. I should not have given you such a hard time that day. You actually ended up quitting because of me," Zayn's eyes went back to his food as he mouthed the apology.

He seemed to believe that that was the reason she quit the job. Annalise smiled. She really did quit her job that day but if she was being completely honest to herself, she knew that she did not quit because of him. In fact deep down, she knew that it had nothing to do with him. It was all because of her boss Elizabeth. That woman was impossible! She knew how to milk her employees dry and make them feel worthless while doing so. Even if he wasn't there, she knew that she wouldn't continue to work there for much longer.

"You don't need to feel guilty for that. I quit because I wanted to quit. I guess I couldn't stand her anymore." Annalise said quite truthfully.

Zayn stared at her. It seemed like she was telling the truth. And besides, that day he too had witnessed the way Elizabeth treated Annalise. If that woman was always like that to her employees then it was no wonder why they wanted to quit. But she was always so nice to her customers.

"About your former boss, has she always been like that?" Zayn asked. If she is always like that, he wanted to know how anyone survived working for her.

Annalise thought about her former boss, Elizabeth. Of course she had always been like that. She had always been cold and mean to others. And her personal assistants were the ones who got it worse from her. She could understand why no one lasted more than two weeks.

"Yeah, she had always been like that. Actually, I was the head of the marketing department for six months. But just because of one mistake that could have been fixed in half a day, she transferred me to be her assistant. She really is overbearing," Annalise said. She did not know why but she found it easier to talk about her problems with this man.

Annalise suddenly realized that maybe she had said too much. Even though he was her landlord, both of them did not know each other really well and it did not make much sense for her to just talk about her problems like this. And besides, she already quit the job.

"I'm sorry I should have said those things. And I did not mean to talk bad about my former boss in front of you. It's just that she's given me a really difficult time when I was working for her, I really didn't mean to tell you about it." she tried to explain herself.

Zayn smiled. "There's no need for you to apologize, Annalise. For some reason, I seem to like hearing you talk about it," he said.

After they were done with dinner, Zayn offered to take Annalise home. It was getting quite late and she did not refuse. He brought her to her place. Just as Annalise was about to step out of the car he asked,

"Do you have a boyfriend?"
