Chapter 6

Sarah Thompson.

Since he approached, and I started speaking with Edgar, something in his left me intrigued, curious. The way he spoke, looked at me, everything was too intense.

When he approached me, I was glazed, looking at his face and his eyes. At that very moment, I recognized him, he was the man who was in for my book. It was that face that made me curious, those intense, serious eyes that moved me in some way.

His straight hair fell slightly over his forehead and past his ears. It was as if he knew me; the way he spoke, looking at me, was different.

As if he had a secret just for me. And that look... it affected me deeply, my whole body, my mind, it felt like my chest was burning.

Edgar was different, in a way I couldn't explain. Everything about him was intense, but I wanted to get to know him. He seemed like a mystery to be unraveled.

When he smiled, even if it was a shy and discreet smile, it hit me right away. It was a beautiful, attractive smile that I didn't expect to receive that day.

Some people called me, and I had to leave. I smiled shyly and said,

“I have to go now; talk to you later, Edgar; thanks for the chat.” I was polite, and he waved at me, shaking his head slowly.

I was then dragged away by my friend and some writers I had met earlier. They wanted to take pictures with me, and of course, I agreed.

“Let's go then,” I said, and we went to a place with good lighting.

I took pictures with some people, writers, family, and friends, smiling for the camera, trying to enjoy the moment.

My friends Julia and Sabrina called me over to talk, and we sat down at a table.

Julia said excitedly:

“Sara, look at that man over there! Who is he? He's looking right at you!” she whispered in my ear. Her face then moved to Edgar.

So he was... looking at me. My face flushed; I was embarrassed.

“Oh, him?” I began to say, looking back at her, she was curious and smiling too much. “I met him recently; he's a professor at the university. He came to talk to me and complimented my book. He seems very… mysterious; the way he talks, looks at me.” I confessed, smiling slightly.

Sabrina agreed, touching my shoulder, laughing softly, and watching how I acted and spoke, just mentioning his name.

“Mysterious and handsome. I'd say you should get to know him better. He seems like someone who keeps secrets. And well, he's very attractive, he has beautiful eyes and a great body too,” she said, laughing more.

I rolled my eyes for a moment, thinking they had had a little too much to drink. They were too cheerful.

Julia laughed:

“You don't have to say it twice! He's one of those men who makes us curious, you know?” she said, gesturing with her hand.

I smiled, a little embarrassed, and said:

“Yeah, he really has something different. That intense look... He got me.” I confessed, intertwining my fingers with hers.

I continued taking pictures with them; they always wanted to take different ones to update their stories, but I couldn't take my eyes off Edgar.

I saw that he was standing a little apart, talking to a woman who seemed to want to strike up a conversation, but he responded with few words and turned his face away, as if he wasn't very interested.

Julia noticed my attention and asked:

"Friend, will you act? Will you talk to him or let that girl talk to him all night?" , she said, her eyes bugging out, and then she started to smile at me.

I replied with a nervous smile:

''I want to go there, but... don’t know, you know... He seems a bit closed off. He's barely talking to that woman; what if he does the same to me?” I asked, unsure.

Sabrina said:

"He won’t do that, Sarah. I’m sure he enjoyed talking to you. He made you curious, sure he’s interested too," she said, looking excited.

“He might even like the surprise. Go for it,” she said.

While she and I were talking, my eyes looked for Edgar, I was looking at him, not knowing how to approach, I lacked courage.

He looked at me for a few seconds, then looked away after smiling at me.

That smile.

My heart jumped in my chest and I breathed slowly.

I wanted to go there, talk, find out who was this man who made me so curious, anxious.

Wanted to know what you had other than your intense and serious eyes.

But I was still hesitant.

Did he feel the same way? Was he curious about me? Did he want to get to know me too?

Did he really want me to approach him?

I stood there, feeling that mixture of fear and desire.

I wanted more than a shy smile or a distant glance.

I really wanted to get to know him.

I looked at my friends and said,

“I'm going over there. Wish me luck.” They supported me, saying I could do it.

I stood up and adjusted my dress.

I stood up, raised my face, then his eyes met mine. Something pulled me to him.

I took a deep breath and began to approach, slowly.

His eyes were fixed on mine, without turning away, he seemed to breathe slowly, his mouth half opened.

The way he looked at me was with curiosity, admiration and interest, and it made me crazy.

The woman insisted on talking to him, Edgar turned his head and said something, then walked away, coming towards me… he was really coming towards me.

My heart was beating like a drum, so fast.

He was then inches away; he smiled.

Rapidly.

“Well, Sarah Thompson, I'm leaving; I'm going to a restaurant now. I wanted to say goodbye before I went,” he said, without looking away.

I nodded slowly, a little sad that he was leaving now. I wanted to talk a little more.

I gave a short smile.

“Oh yes. Thank you, Edgar, for the conversation; it was a pleasure to meet you. Have a good night.”

He waited a few seconds, moved a little closer to me, my pupils dilated, I swallowed hard, and my face froze.

“If you're leaving too and want to join me, we can have dinner together, call your friends, and we can all go together.” He suggested, stepping back a little, waiting for my answer.

I should have said no, but I really wanted to talk more, so I smiled and said.

“Sure, I'd love to; let's go to my friends.” I called him, and he stayed by my side. We walked together, looking at each other sometimes as we walked.
