Chapter 04

“Are you sure, Miss Arbex?” asked the doctor as he checked her condition.

“Yes, Doctor. I'm fine...” She tried to reassure the doctor, saying she was okay, but before she could sit up straight, she felt the room spin around her, and unable to resist the dizziness, she closed her eyes tightly and lay back down on the bed. “I feel like everything around me is spinning!”

“Miss Arbex, you woke up too quickly. Try to breathe deeply and slowly open your eyes. Don't get up too quickly; take it easy, and you'll be fine.”

Lilian followed the doctor's instructions, and surprisingly, she managed to sit up on the edge of the bed without feeling the room spinning.

“Are you feeling better now, Miss Arbex?” Lilian smiled at the doctor and nodded. “Do you remember what happened?” the doctor asked again.

“No, doctor. Why am I here?”

“You arrived here unconscious, but after checking your vital signs, you were fine. It was just exhaustion, and your body couldn't handle the cold because you were exposed to the rain for a long time...” explained the doctor.

Lilian was surprised to realize that she had lost consciousness in the rain, but a second later, she felt her blood run cold. How could she have thought of taking her own life?

How stupid!

“Miss Arbex, if you want to play in the rain next time, I suggest you do it quickly...” The doctor teased her, and Lilian couldn't help but smile, although she still felt angry with herself, silently, in her heart.

“Doctor, may I know who brought me here?” Lilian asked.

“A young man. I'm sorry, ma'am, I don't know his identity, but he was the one who registered your identity at the front desk.” A short-haired nurse replied.

Lilian frowned.

“Is he still here? Can you call him? I need to thank him.” She was curious to know who had brought her to the emergency room, and she was also worried that the person might know Ethan.

She didn't want Ethan or the Legrand family to know she was there.

“He left the hospital shortly after, but he left a note, which is with my boss, and she's not here right now,” said the nurse, looking at her watch. “She'll be back after dinner.”

“All right, I'll wait!” replied Lilian, who then looked at the doctor. "Can I go home now? I'm feeling much better.“

She wanted to go home immediately and get her things out of there, but the doctor didn't answer. Instead, he looked at the nurse beside him as if giving instructions.

”Of course, you can, but I suggest you call your husband to pick you up. It's not safe to go home alone, especially at this time of night!"

When she heard the doctor ask her to call her husband, Lilian's heart ached again. But his last words surprised her, and looking at the clock on the wall, she was startled to realize that it was already past eleven o'clock.

Lilian took a deep breath in silence as she tried to find her purse, as she needed her cell phone to call Ana, her babysitter and friend since childhood.

“And before I forget, Miss Arbex. Congratulations!” Before Lilian could ask for her purse, the doctor said with a smile.

“Congratulations? For what?” She asked, confused.

Why did this doctor congratulate her?!

“Didn't you know?” the doctor asked, surprised. “You're two months pregnant.”

When the doctor said that, Lilian felt as if she had been struck by lightning, and her heart began to race.

“Are you sure?”

“We ran the tests. You're healthy. So is the baby.”

“D-Doctor, you... you said I'm pregnant!?” Lilian asked, needing confirmation that she hadn't heard wrong.

“Why are you scared? I thought you already knew given how many months along you are, but yes, you are pregnant!” He confirmed again, trying to hide his suspicion that this woman might not want this pregnancy. “I'll ask one of the nurses to schedule an appointment with our gynecologist tomorrow, okay? I'm concerned that your current emotional state may affect your pregnancy.”

Lilian was too shocked to pay attention to the doctor's words, and when he finally left, she could only nod and thank him.

Only a nurse remained with her, but she said nothing, lost in her own thoughts about the sudden news of her pregnancy.

In recent years, she had tried various methods to get pregnant, but all her attempts had failed. Now, however, the doctor had just confirmed that she was pregnant.

How could she have gotten pregnant naturally? It was hard for her to believe, but it seemed like a miracle.

“Ma'am, are you still leaving?” asked the nurse, interrupting Lilian's deep thoughts. “If so, I can help you with the paperwork.”

Lilian shook her head in response to the nurse, as her plans had changed upon learning of her pregnancy.

She needed to stay at that hospital and think about her next plan.

“Since the doctor requested an appointment with the gynecologist tomorrow, I'd prefer to stay in a private room, is that okay?”

“Of course, ma'am. I'll arrange that for you!” replied the nurse.

“Do you need my ID or something to register me?” Lilian asked as she tried to find her purse.

“No, ma'am, but I'll check if there's still a room available...” The nurse paused, looking at Lilian silently as she thought about something. “Would you prefer a VIP room or a shared room?”

“The best room in this hospital, money is no object!” Lilian replied with a smile.

Lilian noticed that the nurse looked concerned, as if she was worried that she couldn't afford the VIP ward.

“Yes, ma'am!” The nurse nodded and apologized, but stopped when Lilian called her.

“Nurse, have you seen my bag?”

“When you arrived, all your things were soaked, and we took them to try to dry them, but I'll bring them to you right away!” the nurse explained.

“Thank you!”

Lilian remembered walking in the rain before losing consciousness, and she didn't care about her designer bag. In fact, she just needed her cell phone to call Ana and let her know she wouldn't be coming home that day.
