A condition

Evelyn's Point of View

Sweat dripped down my face, my heart thundering in my chest. It had been almost an hour since Arthur and his men left me alone in this damned cage with lions keeping me company. I had only one prayer: that they find the cars at all costs and set me free.

Dying at age twenty-two wasn't at all in my plan; I had many dreams. I wanted to rule this city as the first female gangster. I would have succeeded today, but Jax ruined everything. He took everything and my team too. I wasn't going to spare his life; he was going to pay for what he had done to me. He couldn't get away after trying to get me killed. He should pray I don't survive, or else hell is going to break loose.

I snapped out of my daze when the gate to the cage swung open and two guards entered, quickly grabbing me by my arms and dragging me out.

"Is she the girl who ruined our event?" I winced as the guard pushed me to the ground, falling at the feet of... My eyes widened in shock, Peter Madison. He was the mafia lord, and everyone in this city bowed to him. I was like an ant when it came to him. He was an old man, but he was cruel, he had no heart, and right now, I knew I was as good as dead.

"Yes, grandpa," Arthur's voice had no emotions in it. "We were able to get only twenty cars back , but the remaining twenty have already been exported out of the country, and we can't seem to locate her team."

Peter's glare pierced through my soul, sharp and stern. I froze on the ground, my heart now pounding against my chest.

"Kill her and her entire family," Peter's words echoed in my brain, and my limbs shook as they sank in. They couldn't kill my family; they hadn't done anything wrong. It was my fault, not theirs.

"Sir, please don't kill my family. They haven't done anything wrong," I begged, tears sprinkled at the corner of my eyes, but I blinked them back. There was no time to cry right now.

"Shut the hell up, my decision is final," he snapped angrily, his face flushing red. "Arthur, I'm giving you the task to kill this girl," he instructed before he walked away, a group of guards following behind him.

Arthur grabbed me by the hand, pulling me up. He started dragging me away from the farmhouse, tears streaming down my face.

"Please don't kill me. I promise I'll pay you for all the cars I've stolen. Please spare my life," I spoke through my sobs, trying to shrug out of his grasp, but his grip was too tight.

Arthur remained quiet as he kept on pulling me through the forest, my feet stumbling to keep up, my screams echoing through the quiet forest.

In a desperate bid to escape, I lowered my head and sank my teeth into his hand, his grip loosening as he groaned in pain.

Seizing the opportunity, I broke free and ran away, the dense underbrush closing in around me. A jagged rock sliced into my leg, sending a sharp pain shooting up my thigh, but I gritted my teeth and kept running.

The pain in my leg became too unbearable; I couldn't run anymore, no matter how much I wanted.

My breath came in short gasps as I took a small breath, resting my weight against the tree. I couldn't run, and at this point, I should just accept my fate.

Before I could get a second to myself, a group of men in black surrounded me from corner to corner. I couldn't make any escape; my leg was in so much pain that I couldn't even run, no matter how much I wanted.

"You love playing games, don't you?" Arthur grabbed me by my hair, sending a sharp pain cutting through my head. At this point, I couldn't stop my sobs. No matter how strong I was, death was my worst fear, and I was afraid of dying young.

"Please don't kill me. I'm the best hacker in this country. I can get you any information you want. I can even hack the white house of Cape Island and make you the president of this country. But please don't kill me," Arthur let go of my hair, causing me to stumble and fall on the ground.

"Trust me, I can do it. You saw how I got those half of the cars back. I can do more than that. But please don't kill me. I can work for you for the rest of my life," I begged, more tears streaming down my face.

"And you want me to trust you?" Arthur's voice was stern, his gaze into mine. I swallowed hard, raised my hand, and wiped the tears streaming down my face.

"If you don't believe my words, then run an investigation on me. You will see for yourself. My name is Evelyn Miller. Run your background check on me, and you will see," my heart raced in fear as I waited for his response. He clapped his fingers, and one of his guards rushed to us, holding a tablet in his hand. He handed it over to Arthur, who held it close to his eyes, staring at the screen.

"So this is how you stole from me?" Arthur's voice dripped with sarcasm. "Interesting. You might actually be useful to me." I let out a deep breath I had been holding. Just maybe he might spare my life and let me go.

"Please just don't kill me and my family. I can do anything you want me to. I can even become your slave," I said. I might not mean the slave part, but right now, dying was the least option I had.

"Watch what you say, little thief. You might regret it later," he warned, handing over the tablet to one of his men. He lowered himself to my level, his dark gaze piercing through my soul.

"I'm going to spare your life under one condition," I swallowed as his words echoed in my ears. At this point, I would do anything to save my life, but could I do anything?
