Chapter 124

Scarlett’s POV

"Alexander Gray! If you insist on protecting this woman, you won't leave here alive either!"

Nearby, a man with a contorted face shouted, pointing his gun at Alexander's head.

Beside them, Luke had already drawn his weapon, aiming at the man.

"Anyone who dares to touch our boss can try!" Luke threatened.

Alexander couldn't help but laugh, though his lips had turned pale from blood loss.

"Scarlett," he said slowly, "look at this scene... You've caused such a commotion all by yourself. You really are quite bold!"

Perhaps it was the strong sea breeze, but my vision became blurry, and I couldn't make out his expression clearly.

Still, I muttered a fragmented complaint: "Mr. Gray, I've told you before—I may be timid in your bed, but once I leave it, I dare to do anything."

As I spoke, I offered a docile, pleasant smile.

But when I looked directly into his eyes, the smile on my face crumbled.

"Scarlett, your courage is truly impressive..."

His blood-stained hand gripped the back of my neck firmly, pulling me into his embrace.

Laughter echoed across the entire deck, then he whispered in my ear, "I'll indulge you one more time!"

The moment he finished speaking, Alexander held me in his arms.

At the same time, Vernon's men completely surrounded us.

Alexander had only Luke by his side, and he was wounded.

Even the slightest graze could be fatal to Alexander, let alone such a serious gunshot wound!

"Alexander, are you really going to oppose our boss for the sake of a woman?"

"Vernon isn't dead yet, is he?" Even with a bullet still in his body, his smile remained defiant.

"Alexander, hand her over to us!"

"You can try..." Just as Alexander finished speaking, the door behind us opened.

I saw Vernon emerge, clutching his abdomen.

He looked terrible, as if he might die at any moment.

"Stop! This is all a misunderstanding!"

He had to pause for breath between each word, but he was indeed still alive.

He tugged at the corner of his mouth resignedly. "Alexander, I hope this isn't the most foolish decision you've ever made."

After saying this, he slightly raised his hand, signaling his men to leave.

The previously tense atmosphere instantly cooled.

Vernon's subordinates quickly dispersed, and the deck immediately returned to its previous state.

Alexander's body swayed slightly, suddenly dropping to one knee, causing me to fall to the ground with him.

But before I could get up, Alexander's hand was already tightly gripping my throat.

The intense feeling of suffocation pulled me back to the edge of death, my pupils contracting sharply.

"So bold... daring to kill someone. Is there anything you wouldn't dare to do?"

At this moment, the bloodstain on Alexander's shirt was still spreading, his face turning as white as paper.

I couldn't speak, only look at him.

This staring contest lasted several seconds until Luke's concerned voice broke the silence, and Alexander finally released his grip.

Freed from his control, I felt no joy.

On the contrary, this outcome wasn't good for me.

"Alexander, you're injured." I controlled my tone, not wanting to appear too concerned.

But when my hand touched his shoulder, the sight before me still pierced my eyes.

So much blood...

He could die. We can't delay any longer.

"Hmph, now you show concern?"

Alexander smiled bitterly.

He raised his hand, gesturing for Luke to help him stand.

Luke quickly supported him to his feet, and just as he was about to say something to me, I tilted my head back and drank the liquid from the vial.

Luke's surprised voice rang out, "Miss Smith, what are you doing!"

After making sure I had consumed it all, I threw the vial down, where it rolled to Alexander's feet.

He looked at the bottle, his eyes filled with disbelief.

"Scarlett Smith, damn it... couldn't you behave just once!"

"You don't want me anymore, so what happens to me doesn't matter, right?"

I looked into Alexander's unfathomably deep blue eyes, my voice so soft it was almost scattered by the sea breeze.

Death had never been a frightening thing to me. Every pawn of Obsidian Palace was prepared to sacrifice themselves at any moment.

But at this moment, my heart felt as if it were being tightly squeezed by an invisible hand, the pain making it almost impossible to breathe.

Perhaps I couldn't bear to part with him. I tried to reach out, wanting to embrace him one last time.

But the drug's effect was more powerful than I had imagined.

Before my fingertips could even touch the edge of his clothes, darkness enveloped my vision, and my consciousness gradually faded away.
