Chapter 5

“They are not allowed on campus.”

“Yes, they are. We can have visitors,” Ivy said with an annoyed tone.

The phone began ringing, and they looked at me. So, I answered.

“Hi, Darla. Now. Yeah, I can. Okay, I’ll wait for him at the gates. Okay, bye.”

“Why did Darla call you?” Ivy asked,

I didn’t answer her; I grabbed my handbag and walked out, not giving them a second thought. I waited at the campus entrance, and five minutes later Miles showed up. I got into the car, and we headed to the club.

“What happened, Sky? Why are your eyes red?. Did someone hurt yo”u? he asked.

“It’s fine. I’ll tell you later.”

“Are you sure you’re good to work today?” he asked.

“Yeah, I’m good. Why does Darla need u”s?

On the way there he gave me the rundown.

“Everyone has the day off because when the Sterling family has a get-together, they don’t want anyone around; hence, the club is closed for the evening. They are good friends with the Oswalds, the owners of the club,” he said, turning onto the road leading to the club.

“Be careful. Emelda Sterling is a vicious woman; she’s the hunky hunk’s stepmother. Also, Kira Edwards will be there; she’s a vicious bitch too. She’s Dorian’s fiancé. Don’t let the women see you looking at their me”n. He said as he pulled up to the back door.

We got out and headed in. Darla ushered us in hurriedly.

“Sorry, but I really needed you. You’ll be paid triple for this. Wait, Sky, are you okay?” she asked, pulling away the uniform.

“I’m fine, I promise.”

I grabbed the tray with the starters and headed out. All evening, I caught glimpses of the looks I was receiving from Kira and Freya. Throughout the entire evening, while we had a few minutes, Miles would tell me who was who. I didn’t pay attention to anyone specifically, only my job.

While I was clearing away the dishes, Kira dropped a fork on the ground. I bent over and picked it up when I felt something wet on my head. I saw the wine dripping to the floor.

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” I heard Dorian asking her.

“Oh my god, I am so sorry, my hand slipped,” she said, standing up.

I stood up and looked at her. She really was beautiful. Black hair, brown eyes, and a well-structured face—she was slim. She had the body of a model.

“If you will kindly excuse me, Ms. Someone will return to clear this up.”

“Oh, I am so sorry, my hands slipped. It really did, Dorian. I’m so, so sorry,” she said, faking an apologetic look.

“It’s okay. Please excuse me.”

I was not there, mentally or emotionally. I just wanted to disappear.  When I walked into the kitchen, Darla looked aghast, and Miles looked pissed off.

“That bitch always does this to someone,” Miles said, grabbing a towel and drying my hair.

“I’m good. Let me change, and we’ll clear up that they are almost finished.”

I changed into another uniform, and we went back outside to start clearing the table. As we cleared, they continued their conversation.

“So, Dorian, when will the wedding preparations begin?” You have been engaged to Kira for three years now.” The stepmother asked.

“When I’m ready,” Dorian said.

“Mrs. Sterling It’s okay. I can wait until Dorian is ready,” Kira said with a smile.

“Well, it needs to happen soo“n, the stepmother said.

“Emelda. That is enough. Dorian will make that decision on his own,” the older man said.

“Father, it has been three…,” Emelda said, but she was cut off.

“Enough. I don’t want another repeat of what happened,” the old man said.

“Then he should follow the rules,” Emelda said in a tone that scared me.

“Or what. What can you d”o? Dorina said in a tone that made me freeze.

“Oh, you know exactly what I mean.” She said,

He stood up so suddenly that he hit me, and I fell over with the tray.  A glass broke, and I cut my hand.

“For fuck’s sake, Dorian,” one of the men yelled.  They all stood up.  He walked over to me, but I raised my hand, stopping him.

“I’m fine. It’s okay. Just a scratch.” I hurriedly gathered the rest of the dishes along with Miles and headed to the kitchen. Once there, Darla grabbed my hand and put it under the water. It didn’t stop bleeding.

“I think she’s going to need some stitches,” Miles said, handing me a towel. The door opened, and the idiot walked in.

“Is she fine?” He asked, looking at Darla, or I think he was. You never could tell who he was looking at because of the sunglasses he wore. He was always wearing them night and day. The door opened again, and Kira walked in.

“Is everything okay?” she asked, looking at me. Then at Dorian.

“Yes. Just a small cut, nothing to be worried about.” I was lying; it was hurting more than I let on. He walked out without a word. But Kira stood there looking at me.

“Darla Does Dorian come here often”?  She asked,

“Not more than the usual, Ms. Edwards,” Darla said.

“I see, and who serves him and his guests?” she asked. Oh shit, she was fishing for information. I was his regular server.

“I tend to Mr. Sterling personally. I know he is peculiar about service, so I take care of him and his guest personally. That is an order from Mr. Oswald,” Darla said, lying through her teeth, and I knew she was trying to protect me.

“I see. Well, have a good evening. And once again I’m sorry about earlier,” she said, walking out of the kitchen. Miles and Darla were looking at each other, and I saw the look that passed between them.

“Miles Get her to the hospital. I’ll meet you there,” Darla said.

Miles hurriedly got me out and into the car, and we left. On the way there, my phone began ringing. It was the demon. I answered.

“What?”

“Who is he?” He asked, and I knew he was talking about Miles.

“FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE,” I said, ending the call and throwing the phone out of the car. Miles just looked at me.

“I’ll explain it later now. Spill it, Miles.”

“Shit... okay. Kira and Dorian are engaged. Kira was away for the past two years, and she just returned. We always have vacancies because of Emelda and Kira. My aunt lied because anyone that looks better than Kira shouldn’t be around Dorian; if a woman is in his presence for more than ten minutes, then they become a threat. The last server that looked after Dorian, she…” He stopped.

“She what?”

“She went to Missing Sky, and to this day she hasn’t been found. That’s why my aunt lied. If Kira knows you have been serving Dorian for the past month and a half, she’ll make your life terrible. She always does this. You have a scholarship to protect. Your future. Just be careful, okay?” he said.

“I have no interest in him.” That was the truth.

“She won’t care. You’re beautiful, Sky, effortlessly and flawlessly beautiful, and she sees that as a threat,” he said.

When we got to the hospital, we waited for a while. After the doctor checked my wound, he confirmed Miles's suspicion. I needed stitches. The whole process lasted all of an hour. We had just gotten the medicine from the pharmacy when we saw Darla walk in. She grabbed us and led us to a corner. She showed us to be quiet.

“Kira is here. I don’t know why, but she is.” Darla said

“Well, I’m here because I’m injured,” I said, looking at them and walking towards the exit. I heard them behind me.

“Wait for me, Sky,” I heard Miles say.

“Darla, why are you here?” I heard her. We turned around, and Kira was standing there with a bodyguard. I looked at her.

“Ms. Edwards, I didn’t expect to see you here. I thought it was just a scratch; unfortunately, the bleeding didn’t stop. So, we ended up here luckily; we did. I needed a few stitches,” I said, raising my hand and showing her.

“Oh, I see. How old are you?” she asked, looking at me, her eyes scanning me.

“I’m nineteen, Ms. Edwards.”

“Oh. How long have you been working at the clu”b? Her questions weren’t questions; it felt like an interrogation.

“Just one month and a half now. If you’ll kindly excuse me, Ms. Edwards, my injury is hurting me more than I would like. I will take my leave now.”

“Sure,” she said as if I was the one wasting her time.

When I turned around and was about to walk out, the doors opened, and Dorian Sterling walked in. He stopped and looked at us, but we walked past him.
