Chapter 8 Meet the Most Unexpected One

Sarah's POV

The wedding was wrapping up, and I still hadn't snagged a family photo.

Looked like Julia didn't need me anymore, and Riccardo had figured out what made her tick. Whatever she loved, he loved. Since Emily was Julia's world, so he treated her like a queen, all to keep Julia happy.

And me? I was just background noise.

I sighed, not sure if I should be relieved or bummed about being invisible.

With all the drama in the Caposta family, maybe it was best to keep my distance. Time to bounce, I guess.

"Sarah, wait up!"

Who now? I turned to see Julia strutting over with a fake smile, trailed by a middle-aged dude with a beer belly.

"Sarah, meet a good friend of mine."

Julia introducing me to a friend? This couldn't be good.

Eyeing the guy's bald head, I got a bad feeling.

"Mr. Johnathon, this is my adopted daughter, Sarah Davis," Julia said, her smile so fake it made me want to puke. "Sarah, this is Mr. Johnathon. He's a good friend of your father's."

"Which father?" I asked.

Julia shot me a death glare but kept her phony smile, trying to look all high-class.

I smirked. Julia had married the richest guy in Los Angeles and now wanted to "introduce" me to this dude who looked old enough to be my dad.

No, she was in a rush to marry me off and get me out of her hair, or more like, out of the Caposta family's hair. Was she seriously worried I'd make a move on her new hubby?

I didn't want to burn bridges, especially since I was still crashing at Julia's old place. So, I had to politely shut down her ridiculous setup.

"Mr. Johnathon, I'm an intern at a hospital in Los Angeles, and I'm swamped. Night shifts every other day. No time for dates," I stated with forced politeness.

Then, I caught Mr. Johnathon checking out my back and butt.

Gross!

"Miss Davis, that's a shame, but a career-driven woman is very attractive. You're as stunning as your mother," he said.

Julia forced a smile, while I laughed. Mr. Johnathon didn't get that his compliment was way off.

He moved closer, his sweaty hand on my bare back, rubbing it. I got goosebumps.

"Maybe we can skip the dating and go straight to dinner in a hotel bed?"

I fought back the urge to puke and slapped his hand away, noticing a faint ring mark on his finger.

Oh, hell no! This guy might be married!

I had overestimated Julia's morals. She wanted to set me up as Mr. Johnathon's side piece?!

"Mr. Johnathon, no thanks. I'm an intern specializing in physical castration. I bet you wouldn't want to test my skills, right?" I said and saw Mr. Johnathon clench his legs, trying to protect his junk.

Of course, I was bluffing. I was a cardiac surgery intern, not a vet. But I really wanted to do it right then.

He forced a smile, pale as a ghost. "Miss Davis, it seems we're not a match."

He didn't even look at me and bolted.

If I had to describe it, I'd say he was running like I was chasing him with a scalpel.

After Mr. Johnathon left, Julia dropped the act. If it weren't for the guests still mingling around, she would've gone off on me.

She said, "Sarah, don't think you can mooch off the Caposta family. I won't let Riccardo give you a dime! And stop acting like a slut trying to seduce your stepdad. After turning down Mr. Johnathon, you won't find a better option."

I shot back, "Julia, are you nuts? Setting up your adopted daughter with a married man as a mistress? If it's such a great opportunity, why not give it to Emily?"

Julia snapped, "You! How dare you compare yourself to Emily? You've been a bitch since you were a kid!"

She raised her hand to slap me. I instinctively raised my arm to block it.

Suddenly, a tall figure stepped in front of me. Julia's hand never landed.

He said, "Sorry, Julia, I got here late and missed your wedding with my dad."

I glanced up at the guy next to me. He was tall, rocking a perfectly tailored suit without a single wrinkle, a delicate daisy in his breast pocket, gold-rimmed glasses, and his hair was neat and shiny.

Wait, that face!

I quickly slapped my hand over my mouth.

No way, it's him?!

I can't believe my eyes, or my own brain. Is I wrong? Or was I hallucinating?

I closed my eyes tightly, shook my head hard, and opened my eyes again, or that face! How could I

possibly forget this face.

I almost cried out excitedly: Alex. But the next moment, reason told me, no, there must be a reason why he was here, and he must not be called Alex.

"Federico, you're back," Julia said with that sickly sweet smile. "Riccardo said you went back to New York to handle some urgent stuff. I thought I wouldn't see you at the wedding, and I was so bummed. Emily, come here!"

Federico?

Is he a Federico Caposta? Riccardo The only child of a formal marriage, the most promising heir of the huge Caposta family?

My mouth opened up because of surprise.

Julia waved to Emily, who was chatting with some rich girls nearby.

Emily saw Federico and lit up like a Christmas tree, running over.

"Federico, you're back!" She grabbed his hand, acting all sisterly.

Guess they already knew each other.

But Federico's gaze stayed polite but distant. He gently patted Emily's hand and then pulled his own back, shoving it into his pocket.

He turned to look at me. "And who's this?"

Seeing those dreamy blue eyes, memories of that two-night stand hit me like a truck, and I felt dizzy.

Federico, my stepbrother, was Alex! My one-night stand!

He still looked so handsome, so perfect, but now he seemed like a different person—cold and serious, hard to approach.

Was this really the guy who rocked my world in bed all night?

My hand instinctively gripped the hem of my dress tightly. My mind started replaying the scene of me in the hotel bed, begging him to fuck me.

Jesus! This was so embarrassing!

Julia had to turn to introduce me to Federico, "This is my adopted daughter, Sarah Davis, an intern doctor."

Julia made sure to emphasize "adopted."

Federico seemed totally unfazed by Julia's little dig and just stared at me with those mesmerizing eyes.

"An intern doctor? Oh, that's impressive." A barely noticeable smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.

"Miss Davis, which hospital do you work at?" he asked.

"I, I used to work at New York HHC, and now I'm about to start at Premier Cardiac Care Hospital here next Monda." My voice got smaller and smaller.

Why did I feel guilty? I hadn't done anything wrong.

Okay, I did lie that night, but come on, I wasn't a hotel waitress, and he wasn't a truck driver.

I straightened my neck, forcing myself to meet his gaze. I was sure that for a moment, my defiant look amused him.

"Miss Davis, Federico Caposta, nice to meet you." He extended his hand to me.

I tried to stay calm and shook his hand. His pinky lightly brushed my palm before he let go. My face turned red instantly.

Even with everyone around, I couldn't help but think of those hands inside me, making me climax that night.

Emily, unnoticed by others, rolled her eyes at me, seemingly warning me not to attract Federico's attention, then wrapped her arms around his.

"Federico, I'm about to start working at the foundation. You have to teach me well. I heard you were the star professor at the business school," Elimy said in her saccharine tone.

Federico smiled at her, clearly as if she were a stranger. "Emily, I will personally manage the foundation. I will assess your professional abilities then."

Federico Although talking to Emily, I can feel his deep eyes are looking at me, and I, subconsciously avoid his eyes.

My heart beat violently.

How I once longed to see this face again, But I understand that, I must leave Caposta Manor immediately and start work as soon as possible.

He never had any contact with him. Federico Suddenly whispered.

" Sarah, I'm glad you are in the LA. We will meet again soon.”
