Chapter 94 He's Going to Marry Into the Family

Isabella quickly blurted out, "I wasn't on the phone for long. Just a quick call."

Ray checked his watch and raised an eyebrow, "A quick call? That was twenty-five minutes."

Isabella had no words.

Ray sighed, "Look, this is a workplace. If you want to chat freely, maybe don't come to work."

"No, that's not it..." Isabella said, feeling frustrated.

Joshua heard the noise and walked in. He saw Isabella's teary eyes and then turned to Ray, "Mr. Price, what's going on?"

"Isabella was making personal calls during work hours. Handle it as per company policy." Ray said, walking away.

His demeanor was icy.

'Personal calls?' Joshua thought, then looked back at Isabella, "You know the company rules about personal calls during work hours."

"I wasn't. It was just a call. Can't I even take a call?" Isabella felt even more wronged, tears welling up.

Joshua knew the line between a call and a long personal call was blurry. Isabella was just unlucky. He softened his tone, "Just be more careful next time."

As Joshua was about to leave, Isabella grabbed his arm, "Joshua, what's going to happen to me? I really just took a call. Please don't fire me."

"It's not that serious. Probably just a pay cut and a warning." Joshua reassured her.

A pay cut would still hurt Isabella.

Ray was just being harsh.

Unfair as it was, she had to keep working.

After hours, Isabella stayed late to finish translating the meeting minutes.

She noticed the light was still on in the CEO's office.

She decided to check in.

She knocked twice. Ray looked up, and Isabella forced a smile, "Mr. Price, still working?"

"What's up?" he asked coldly.

"I need to talk to you." Isabella said, hands behind her back.

"About what? Your phone call?" Ray signed the last document and tossed it aside, looking at Isabella with a smirk.

"No, no, I've admitted my mistake. I want to talk about you."

"Me?" Ray's lips curled into a smile, "No need to get personal."

Isabella waved her hand, "No, I just want to ask, are you from Stellaria?"

"No," he replied.

"Have you ever been injured, like your head or body? Or, when did you come to Rexonia? Was it six months ago?" she asked cautiously.

Ray frowned, looking at Isabella like she was crazy, "Are you investigating me? What does this have to do with you?"

"Of course it has to do with me. I'm Isabella, I'm your..." Before she could finish, Ray laughed mockingly. "Trying to get close to me, huh? If you have time, do your job well. If there's nothing else, leave."

"George, do you really not remember me, or are you pretending? If you have any issues, you can tell me. If there's another woman, just say it. You don't have to act like you don't know me, right?" Isabella said angrily.

Ray laughed, having seen many women with various motives trying to talk to him, his lips curling in disdain, "Ms. Neville, you're pregnant, about to be a mother. Control yourself."

'Does he think I'm trying to seduce him?' Isabella thought.

She was about to argue when there was another knock on the door, followed by a voice, "Ray."

Both Isabella and Ray turned to see a woman standing there. She had flawless makeup, long black hair, a tall figure, and was dressed in a tight short skirt and a high-end luxury coat, practically dripping with wealth.

Isabella glanced back at Ray, who was already putting on his coat.

The woman walked over, hooked her arm through his, and smiled sweetly, "I knew you'd be working late. Didn't I tell you? Work can wait. If you ruin your health, it's not worth it."

"Let's go," he said indifferently.

"Ray, my dad's birthday is coming up. Let's go pick out a gift together."

"Okay."

"And," she added, playing with her necklace, "I don't really like this one anymore. I want a new one."

"Okay," he responded.

The two walked out, arm in arm, leaving Isabella standing there, stunned.

Isabella grabbed her bag and headed out. As she passed the secretary's office, she overheard people chatting excitedly.

"Looks like Mr. Price and Ms. Miller are getting married soon."

"If they do, Mr. Price's position will be rock solid."

"Mr. Miller only has Susan, so EX Corporation is hers, and what's hers is her husband's, which means Mr. Price's."

"Such luck, some people can only dream of it."

"No matter how great Mr. Price is, he still has to marry into the family. It's a bit of a pity."

"Pity? If I could marry into that family, I'd do it in a heartbeat."

"Exactly, who would turn down that kind of money? Plus, Mr. Price is handsome and Susan is beautiful. Even without the money, they'd be into each other."

Isabella listened quietly, suddenly understanding why George didn't acknowledge her. With a woman like Susan and a family like the Millers, anyone with a sense of ambition would make the same choice.

Besides, George wouldn't be content with just growing the Spencer Group's assets in Stellar City.

The Spencer Group needed to expand, and the Miller family was the perfect stepping stone.

Isabella felt a strange sense of relief, realizing that some people, once lost, are lost forever. Even if they met again, things wouldn't be the same.

She looked down at her belly, wondering if all these emotions were making her doubt having this baby.

But she didn't. This child had been with her for almost six months, becoming a part of her.

She had already fallen in love with this little one, and it had nothing to do with George.

"From now on, it's just you and me," Isabella said, gently patting her belly and feeling a kick in response.

Walking out of the company, the sky was completely dark.

Standing by the roadside, Isabella tried to hail a cab.

A white car slowly pulled up in front of her, the window rolling down, "Isabella."

Isabella looked inside, "Keith? What a coincidence."

"Do you work at EX Corporation?" Keith asked.

Isabella nodded, "Yeah, do you work nearby too?"
