Chapter 89 Take Good Care of Yourself
Isabella nodded.
Keith was a bit taken aback but didn't push, "Rexonia's language is pretty straightforward. Since you already know the basics, it shouldn't be too tough. After you finish up, are you thinking about getting a job?"
"We'll see. I'm pregnant, so I might have to wait until after the baby comes."
Keith looked at Isabella, shocked. He couldn't believe this innocent-looking girl was pregnant.
"Pregnant? Where's your husband? Isn't he around?"
Isabella just smiled and didn't say anything.
Keith loved to chat, especially about Stellar University. He could go on forever and never seemed to get tired of it.
When Isabella left, they swapped contact info.
Back at her rented apartment, Isabella headed straight to the bathroom to throw up.
Ever since she got pregnant, her pregnancy reaction had been brutal. She'd puke up whatever she ate, and even when she didn't eat, she'd still feel nauseous, killing her appetite.
But she had to eat for the baby's sake.
Living in a foreign country was tough and boring, but not seeing familiar faces and places made her less homesick.
Eating alone while watching TV, Isabella often found her mind wandering back to last year.
It was spring then too, and she didn't have so many worries. She'd spend whole days in the studio with Elodie.
Those days were long gone.
One day after class, she bumped into someone she knew.
"Daniel?" Isabella was surprised.
Daniel's eyes scanned Isabella, noticing her slightly swollen belly. He sighed, "Caleb told me you went abroad. I was on a business trip nearby, so I thought I'd check in on you. How far along are you?"
"Five months," Isabella replied.
"How's the studying going?"
"I finished the language course. Now I'm catching up on other classes, waiting to take the certification exam," Isabella said flatly.
"Honestly, you don't have to push yourself so hard. What George left you is enough for you and the baby for the rest of your lives." Daniel's eyes were full of concern, thinking a twenty-year-old shouldn't have to deal with all this.
Isabella looked down and smiled, "What George left should go to Patricia. I have my own savings, and I don't want to live like I'm fifty when I'm only twenty. Staying busy helps; otherwise, I'll just miss him more."
"George's body was never found. Just think of him as still out there somewhere," Daniel said.
"Yeah, when I'm old, I'll go look for him. I owe him that much." Isabella's voice was soft and sad.
"Don't think like that. George would want you and the baby to be happy," Daniel said, feeling a pang in his heart. He knew Isabella would be a great mom.
"Of course, I'll raise our child well. And I don't plan to stay here forever. I just haven't come to terms with losing him yet." Isabella's eyes filled with tears. She forced a smile to keep it together.
"Oh, by the way, if Joseph gets caught, let me know," Isabella said.
Daniel nodded, "He's got all of George's seals and shares. He won't stay hidden for long. Once he shows up, they'll catch him. Don't worry."
"Okay. Daniel, why don't you come over to my place for a bit?" Isabella invited.
"No, I have some personal stuff to handle. Hold on a sec; I got something for you." Daniel left and came back quickly with a package. "This is for the baby, just a little gift."
Daniel handed over a newborn gift set. Isabella said, "Thanks, Daniel."
"Take care of yourself."
Isabella nodded, "I will."
Watching Isabella leave, Daniel leaned against his car and lit a cigarette. George's departure had hit him the hardest, aside from Isabella.
He and George had grown up together, always the most trusted presence in each other's lives. He couldn't believe George was gone.
The spring wind was wild, and sand got in his eyes.
He stubbed out his half-smoked cigarette under his foot. Just as he opened the car door, a hurried girl bumped into it.
The girl hit the car door and fell backward.
"Are you okay?" Daniel rushed to help her.
The girl winced in pain and immediately started scolding, "What's wrong with you? Don't you know you can't park here? If someone gets hurt, can you afford it?"
"Sorry, how about I take you to the hospital for a check-up?" Daniel said kindly.
The girl checked herself and moved her joints, glaring at Daniel, "You're lucky I'm in a hurry. Otherwise, I would definitely go to the hospital for a full check-up."
"How about this? Here's my number. If you have any issues, contact me, and I promise to take full responsibility." Daniel wrote down his phone number and handed it over.
The girl snatched it and stuffed it into her pocket before hurrying off.
A bus arrived, and she rushed to get on, bumping into Isabella, who was also boarding. Isabella almost lost her balance and stumbled backward as the girl supported Isabella, whose belly was slightly protruding.
The girl asked, "Are you okay?"
Isabella held her chest, steadied herself, and then looked at the girl. "Elodie?"
Elodie recognized Isabella too, her eyes wide with surprise, "Isabella?"
Seeing Isabella's belly, Elodie was still a bit shocked, "You're pregnant?"
Isabella nodded, "Yes, Elodie. So you've been in Rexonia all this time. Why did you leave without saying goodbye? Your phone was off, and you didn't reply to my messages. What happened?"
Mentioning this, Elodie's face fell and she apologized, "Isabella, I'm sorry. With Nathan's condition at the time, I really wasn't in the mood... Plus, George was pressuring us, so we had to leave quickly. That's why I couldn't say a proper goodbye."
There were a few key words in that sentence: Nathan, George.
Isabella didn't understand the situation back then so she asked, "What happened to Nathan? Did George make you leave?"
"It's a long story. How about we find a place to sit and talk?" Elodie said.
"Okay."
In a quiet café, Isabella and Elodie sat across from each other. Elodie ordered a cappuccino and slowly stirred it.
She explained Nathan's situation.
Isabella took a sip of her milk and asked, "How is Nathan now?"
"The doctor said his erratic behavior is unlikely to be cured. The best outcome is to control the episodes." Elodie chuckled softly, "Actually, Nathan got what he deserved. I warned him many times, but I didn't expect him to still have bad intentions. George didn't kill him, so he's lucky. If I had known he and Juniper had planned to frame you, I would never have tricked you into going to the hotel. That way, you wouldn't have been drugged and would still have the baby."
