Chapter 74 Good Skills
George half-raised his hand and said, "Alright, alright, I won't touch you. You walk on your own."
The sky was already dark, and the winter sea breeze was freezing, stinging their faces. Isabella wrapped herself tighter in George's coat and picked up the pace.
The estate was huge, and they were in the back garden. Even though the path was lit by street lamps, it still felt kinda creepy.
"Who knows if there are any wild animals lurking in these woods?"
Isabella muttered to herself and saw a pair of green, gem-like eyes staring at them from a distance.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she immediately stopped, "Look, what is that?"
George squinted his dark eyes, warily looking at the eyes. 'Not good, there are wild animals around,' he thought.
He instinctively grabbed Isabella's hand and pulled her behind him, saying, "I don't know, maybe it's a wolf."
"A wolf?" Isabella's legs trembled with fear, "What should we do?"
"I'll distract it, and you run," George said.
Isabella looked at George from behind and said, feeling uneasy, "Maybe we should call the estate owner. He might have a hunting rifle or something."
"Did you bring your phone?" he asked.
Isabella patted her pockets, realizing her phone was in her bag, which was in the guest room, and said, "No. Did you bring yours?"
"No."
Neither of them had their phones, and they didn't dare make too much noise for fear of alarming the lurking beast. They could only retreat step by step.
Fortunately, George had a habit of carrying a knife. A sharp knife and his agile skills made it not too difficult to handle a wolf.
The problem was Isabella's safety.
"I'll distract it, and you run back to get the estate owner for help," George said.
Isabella nodded, "Okay."
"Ready, go." At George's command, Isabella ran with all her might.
George led the wolf away, which bared its bloodthirsty fangs and lunged at him. It wasn't just one wolf; it was three.
Three wolves attacked George simultaneously.
No matter how skilled he was, it was difficult to handle.
Hearing the sounds of the struggle, Isabella, who had run a distance, looked back at George fighting the wolves.
'This is bad; several wolves are attacking him at once, and he seems to be struggling.
If I run back to get help now, George might be dead by the time I return.
No, I can't just watch George get eaten by wolves,' she thought.
Isabella looked around and finally found a stick. Grabbing the wooden stick, she ran back.
Seeing Isabella running back, George's heart leaped into his throat and he asked, "What are you doing back here?"
"Of course, I'm helping you. Stop talking, two people are better than one," she said.
Without hesitation, Isabella raised the stick and struck the wolf attacking George. The gray wolf yelped and turned to pounce on Isabella.
George seized the opportunity to stab the gray wolf with his knife. Working together, they quickly subdued one wolf.
"Nice moves," George said and gave Isabella a thumbs up.
Isabella snorted, "I didn't expect you knew martial arts."
"Let's cut the crap. If we can't subdue these wolves quickly, they'll attract the whole pack and we'll be toast," George said.
The other two wolves, seeing their companion on the ground, hesitated, deciding whether to charge or retreat.
They hissed and growled, trying to intimidate the humans in front of them.
But Isabella and George stood their ground, showing no fear in the face of these fierce beasts.
The two wolves looked at their fallen buddy again and finally decided to bail.
Panting, Isabella and George looked at each other and burst out laughing.
Isabella was fine, but George wasn't so lucky. The initial attack by the three wolves had his arm hurting and bleeding pretty bad.
"Let's get that wound taken care of," Isabella said, supporting George as they headed to find the estate owner. The owner was shocked and immediately called a doctor to give George an injection and bandage him up.
"With all this heavy snow, the wolves in the mountains are probably starving and came down looking for food. It's really fortunate you two are okay," the estate owner explained, then ordered the butler to remind everyone to stay inside and sent people to reinforce the estate's walls.
"Are you okay?" Isabella asked George, worried.
George's arm was torn up, and even though he got a blood protein injection, Isabella was still worried and wanted him to go to a hospital in Riverside City for more treatment.
"I'm fine, don't worry," he said.
"Don't play the hero. This is serious," she said firmly.
George smiled slightly, "I'm fine."
The estate owner also chimed in, "Mr. Spencer, maybe you should listen to Ms. Neville. Your status is important, and we can't afford any accidents."
George paused for a moment and then nodded, "Alright."
The car sped towards Riverside City.
George kept his eyes closed, his head occasionally leaning on Isabella's shoulder, and she didn't mind.
Thinking about her ruined birthday, she muttered to herself, "I wonder if we'll get a refund for the room? And the birthday cake, we haven't even eaten it yet."
Her soft sigh made George twitch his eyelids and say, "I'll make it up to you another day."
"That's not necessary," Isabella said, not really meaning it.
"I just wanted to give you an unforgettable birthday, but those wolves ruined it. At least you're not hurt." George's tone was weak, and Isabella looked down at George on her shoulder, pursing her lips, "Why did you want to celebrate my birthday?"
"You married into the Spencer family and went through a lot. I know, Isabella. I'm not a bad person."
Even though George didn't open his eyes, his words hit Isabella's heart, making her feel all sorts of things.
"George, let me ask you, do you really have an illegitimate child?" she asked, thinking if she didn't ask now, she might never get the chance.
"No." George opened his eyes and sat up straight, "Where would I get an illegitimate child?"
Isabella pursed her lips, hesitating, "Then Juniper's child—isn't it yours? Patricia said she wanted to bring the child to the Spencer family and raise it. If it's not your child, would she do that?"
"Juniper's child is Joseph's," George gave her an unexpected answer.
Isabella's face wrinkled in shock.
"Juniper had a thing with Joseph while dating me, and not just once. It's normal for her to have his child," he explained.
Isabella looked at George, confused, and asked, "But how can you be so sure it's Joseph's and not yours?"
"Of course, I'm sure," he said firmly.
"Are you impotent?" Isabella asked, disgusted.
George was so speechless he wondered if she even had a brain, "Don't you know if I am or not?"
