Chapter 66 There Are So Many Rich People

Isabella shook her head with a grin, "Nah, I'm good."

"You think I'm broke or something?" Ivan shot back.

"No, but other girls might think so. Don't blow your cash like that," Isabella said, focusing on her food.

Ivan smirked, "Isn't your birthday coming up?"

"Yeah, but for the past few years, you've been overseas. All you do is send money, no real thought behind it," Isabella said, still a bit salty about it.

"This time, I'll get you a real gift," Ivan promised.

"Thanks."

Isabella knew Ivan was just looking for a reason to give her something special, but she didn't want a gift loaded with emotions.

She didn't want to mess up their vibe, but she couldn't just spell it out because she valued their relationship too much.

While Ivan was away, Isabella landed a job at a legit company as an office clerk.

The pay was $4,000, and she had to hand in her diploma after graduation.

Even though the pay wasn't great, Isabella was cool with it.

With her side gig as an illustrator, she was doing alright.

On her first day at work, Isabella felt pumped, tying her long hair into a casual bun, looking both young and mature.

Her business outfit was company-issued. It was a bit big, but she made it work.

The black heels she bought yesterday weren't flashy, but they weren't comfy either.

As she stepped out and locked her door, a fancy car with a Riverside City plate pulled up in front of her neighbor's house.

The windows were tinted, so she couldn't see inside, but she figured it was someone loaded.

She sighed, thinking about how many rich folks were around.

Even without a car, it was easy for Isabella to get to work by bus.

That was the main reason she took the $4,000 job.

The luxury car's window rolled down slowly, and George watched Isabella's slow-moving figure through the rearview mirror, a slight smile on his lips.

Caleb said, "Mr. Spencer, I found out that Mrs. Spencer got a job at SunPaper Enterprises as a regular office clerk, making only $4,000."

"Without a diploma, $4,000 is pretty generous," George said as he opened the car door and stepped out.

The walls of the row houses weren't high, so George could easily see into Isabella's small yard from his own.

"Isabella loves growing flowers and plants. When we get back to Stellar City, I'll have John set up a garden for her," George said, feeling good.

"Mr. Spencer, are you staying here today?" Caleb asked, hurrying to open the door.

George didn't plan to stay today. Isabella's birthday was coming up, and he wanted to surprise her.

It was his first time celebrating a girl's birthday, so he had to figure it all out.

"No." George's gaze drifted past Isabella's yard to her western neighbor's, and he asked, "That Ivan lives over there?"

"Yeah, he moved in the same day as Mrs. Spencer."

George nodded.

First thing Isabella did when she got to the company was hit up the HR department. After checking in, she got her employee badge and plopped down at her desk. She hadn't been there long when the department supervisor, Lenora, strolled over.

"You Isabella?"

Isabella jumped up, "Yep, that's me."

"Alright, here's the deal: you'll be copying, printing, grabbing coffee, organizing files, ordering breakfast, lunch, and overtime meals for everyone, and..." Lenora glanced at the general manager's office, "Mr. Scott's office needs cleaning, and his coffee is on you too. It's a lot, but I got high hopes for you."

Isabella didn't have high hopes for herself, but Lenora sure did.

She didn't have the guts to say that, so she just nodded, "I'll do my best."

"You've got potential." Lenora patted her shoulder.

Just serving coffee and water, there was no potential for her. Isabella psyched herself up and got to work.

"Isabella, need this copied, three minutes, chop-chop."

"Isabella, where's my coffee? Why isn't it here yet?"

"Isabella, what are you dragging your feet for? I need this document now."

"Isabella, where's my lunch?"

Lenora saw Isabella running around like a headless chicken and said, "Mr. Scott's in a meeting, make five cups of coffee and get them to the conference room, pronto."

"Got it." Isabella said before sprinting to the break room again.

By the end of the day, Isabella's legs were about to give out. She couldn't wrap her head around how a company that sold toilet paper could be so crazy busy.

Rubbing her sore legs, Isabella slowly made her way home from the bus stop.

Life wasn't a walk in the park.

Next morning, Isabella got up an hour early to order breakfast for everyone, but thanks to the heavy snow, she missed a bus and got chewed out by Lenora.

"Don't sweat it, she's just dealing with menopause. Plus, your job isn't to run errands; you don't have to do the ordering." The person talking to Isabella was a colleague from the same department, Marlowe Barnes.

Isabella just smiled and kept quiet.

Lenora walked over again, seeing Marlowe chatting with Isabella, so she snapped at Marlowe too, "Aren't you supposed to be working? Marlowe, don't think just because you have connections, the company can't fire you. You better get to work."

"Lenora, I wasn't just chatting. I was telling Isabella what tasks she should and shouldn't do. You can't push her around just because she's new." Marlowe's defiant attitude instantly ticked off Lenora, and she said, "Then you do it. You do these tasks and let Isabella do your job. Don't complain on her behalf."

"Why should I? I wasn't hired to be a food delivery person. Don't think you can push me around too. I won't stand for it." Marlowe's unyielding stance left Lenora fuming with no outlet for her anger.

Lenora glared at Isabella and asked, "Do you think I'm bullying you too?"

Isabella didn't want to argue with Lenora, but she wasn't a pushover either; she had her own temper so she said, "I didn't say that."

"Then get to work. Mr. Scott's son is here; go make him a cup of coffee." Lenora barked.
