Chapter 62 Divorce Agreement
Caleb barged in, juggling a mountain of meeting stuff, and blurted out, "Mr. Spencer, we got a situation. You gotta deal with it."
George sighed, dropped his phone, and got back to the grind.
At the airport, Isabella snagged her ticket. Boarding time was creeping up. She turned to Colin and said, "Thanks, Colin. Guess this is where we part ways. It was cool meeting you."
"Take care, Isabella. We'll cross paths again," Colin replied.
"Bye," she said, waving.
After a hectic day, George loosened his tie and grabbed his phone again. He dialed Isabella's number.
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently switched off."
'Switched off? Seriously? Fine, whatever. Just go home,' he thought.
The Spencer Manor was eerily quiet today.
On weekends, Patricia always hit the sack early, and the servants kept it down. After prepping dinner, they all bounced.
Seeing George walk in, John greeted him, "Mr. Spencer, you're back."
"Yeah," George muttered, swapping his shoes and heading upstairs. "Isabella didn't go out, did she?"
"She hasn't come downstairs all day. Probably catching up on sleep," John replied.
For some reason, George missed Isabella more than usual today, so he picked up the pace.
When he pushed open the bedroom door, he found it cold and empty.
"Isabella?" He called out, searching everywhere.
"Not in the bathroom, not in the dressing room, not on the balcony. Where the heck is she?" he wondered.
George was about to head downstairs to ask John when he spotted the divorce papers on the side table.
He couldn't believe it, thinking he was seeing things.
"Divorce papers? What kind of sick joke is this?" George mumbled.
'Just last night, we were so close. How could she suddenly want a divorce? Why?' George thought, but he couldn't wrap his head around it.
The number he dialed didn't go through.
He slumped on the bed, trying to calm down.
'Is she mad? Throwing a fit? No, Isabella's serious this time. When did she start thinking about this? Did she find out something?' he wondered.
George's mind suddenly clicked, "The kid."
Isabella must've found out about the kid, which is why she bailed.
George cursed under his breath.
'Damn it, if I had just gone to the amusement park with her yesterday, would I have noticed something was off? Isabella's saying goodbye, and I'm stuck with company crap. Now she's gone,' he thought.
George lit a cigarette. He didn't smoke it, just held it between his fingers. Amid the swirling smoke, he suddenly thought of something and dialed a number.
"Mr. Spencer, Mrs. Spencer just came to discharge the patient. We don't know where she went," the person on the other end reported.
As he suspected, Isabella wanted to cut all ties with the Spencer family.
That heartless woman.
That night, George didn't sleep a wink.
He left early in the morning.
When he knocked on Daniel's door, Daniel was in dreamland.
Groggily, Daniel opened the door and grumbled, "What are you doing here so early? Can't you let me sleep? I just did two surgeries yesterday. I'm beat."
Ignoring Daniel's complaints, George said, "Change your clothes and come with me."
"Where to?"
"Just hurry up."
Still half-asleep, Daniel got dragged out by George, hopped in the car, and they sped down Stellar City Avenue.
"Hey, it's not even dawn yet. Where are we going? Don't tell me your mom..." Daniel said, his heart skipping a beat.
George, one hand on the wheel, took a deep breath and said, "Isabella's gone."
"Gone? Where'd she go?" Daniel asked, eyebrows shooting up.
"I don't know."
Daniel's jaw dropped. "You don't know? You mean she just up and left?"
"She left me divorce papers, man. Wants to cut all ties with me and the Spencer family. Took her brother Oliver too."
Daniel was shocked but couldn't help but admire her guts. "Wow, Isabella's got some fire. Gotta respect that."
George smacked Daniel on the head. "Respect what?"
"Chill, dude! I just mean she's got a strong personality. No funny business," Daniel said, rubbing his head and pleading for mercy.
With Isabella gone, Daniel was curious about George's next move. "So, you gonna divorce her?"
"No," George said, dead serious.
"Then why'd she leave?" Daniel asked, scratching his head.
"Probably 'cause Juniper said something to her. Think about it, if Juniper can mess with my mom, she can definitely mess with Isabella."
Daniel nodded. "Yeah, even after you blacklisted Juniper, she still didn't get the memo. She's got some nerve."
"She probably thinks that kid is her golden ticket. Today, I'll show her if it's worth anything," George said, flooring the gas pedal. The car roared to life, speeding up fast.
They pulled up to a swanky but remote neighborhood in the 'burbs. George killed the engine.
Daniel looked around, confused. "Juniper lives here?"
"Just follow me," George said.
They took the elevator to the sixth floor. After a few rings, a woman in her fifties opened the door.
"Is this Juniper's place?" George asked.
The woman nodded. "And you are?"
George didn't waste time, pushing past her and storming in. Daniel was right on his heels.
On the dining table was a nutritious breakfast. In a baby chair next to it was a baby, less than a year old.
George scooped up the baby and handed him to Daniel. "Hold him."
The woman, sensing trouble, rushed to the bedroom to call Juniper.
The kid, seeing strangers, started wailing. Juniper burst out of the bedroom, her heart racing when she saw George and Daniel. "What are you doing here? Give me my child!"
George stepped towards Juniper, making her back up in fear. "What did you say to Isabella?" he demanded.
Juniper smirked, catching on. "Did she run crying to you? Women like her always hide behind men, never thinking for themselves. She deserves to be fooled."
George grabbed Juniper by the neck, slamming her against the wall. "Juniper, if you really had my kid, your life would be over. Not just you, but the whole Young family wouldn't last in Stellar City. Don't think I don't know your little games."
"Did you come here to warn me to stay away from Isabella?" Juniper gasped, struggling to breathe.
"I asked you, where's the other kid?" George tightened his grip.
Juniper's face turned red. She clawed at George's hand but couldn't break free. "What other kid? I only have one son."
