Chapter 61 Parting on Good Terms

"You should eat too," George said.

"Alright."

After dinner, George headed to the study like he always did.

Isabella grabbed the soup John made and went to Patricia's room.

"Patricia."

When Patricia saw Isabella, she waved her over. "In the future, let the servants handle this stuff. You're not here to be a maid."

She took Isabella's small hand, looked at her gently, and asked, "Got something on your mind?"

Isabella shook her head, then nodded, then shook her head again. "Just realized we haven't chatted in a while."

"Did George give you a hard time? If he did, tell me, and I'll set him straight," Patricia said.

Patricia was actually a pretty awesome mother-in-law, which was rare in rich families. Given Isabella's background, she was super grateful for not being looked down on.

"No, George treats me great. You don't need to worry. He's a total charmer. Lots of people at our company have crushes on him. Even hot celebs are into him," Isabella said, full of admiration, making Patricia very happy.

"George has always been a hit with the ladies, but you gotta keep an eye on him, okay?" Patricia said gently.

Isabella nodded. "It's getting cold. Please stay home and take care of yourself. Stay warm."

"Okay," Patricia said, pleased.

"Honestly, I'm really grateful to you. If it weren't for you, Oliver wouldn't have gotten treatment at such a good hospital. And I wouldn't have gotten my mom's house back so easily. Really, thank you, Patricia," Isabella said, deeply moved.

This made Patricia a bit worried. "We're all family. Why say such things? Isabella, are you feeling down?"

"No, Patricia. I just suddenly felt like I hadn't properly thanked you," Isabella explained.

Patricia smiled and gently patted Isabella's small hand. "No need for thanks among family. Your happiness is our happiness."

"Then you should rest early. I won't disturb you," Isabella said.

"You should rest early too."

"Okay."

Leaving Patricia's room, Isabella felt a sense of relief.

George was still working in the study. He wouldn't be back until at least ten o'clock, as usual.

Isabella sat on the bed, thinking about her childhood.

Hazel and Lester—the two people who loved her the most in the world—had left her one after another.

At ten, she was kicked out of The Neville Villa, going from a beloved girl to an orphan.

If it weren't for Maurice taking her in, she would've starved to death.

The life of wandering left her with an extreme lack of security.

Isabella wasn't someone who easily fell in love, but this time she had been hasty.

She fell in love with George, a capable rich man she shouldn't have, while she was a fallen heiress, a country bumpkin.

The huge gap made her genuine feelings perhaps just a joke in George's eyes.

Sometimes, making a decision didn't take long, as long as you clearly understand yourself.

The saddest thing for a woman was to cling desperately and refuse to face reality.

Fortunately, she wasn't that indecisive, just leaving rationality.

That night, they made love passionately, a stormy affair that lasted until dawn.

With a meeting to attend, George headed to the company after a quick rest.

Once he left, Isabella, who had been up all night, dragged herself out of bed and into the bathroom.

She took a shower, dried her hair, packed her bags, and finally pulled out a signed divorce agreement.

She wasn't taking any money or stuff from the Spencer family, not even the two cards George had given her. But she did keep the bracelet Patricia had given her.

She had the inheritance Hazel left her, which would be enough to live on and cover Oliver's treatment.

Taking one last look at the room she had slept in for six months, she carefully packed up everything that was hers, leaving the place spotless.

Taking advantage of Patricia being at church, Isabella dragged her luggage out of The Spencer Manor, with Colin picking her up.

Sitting in the car, Colin didn't know how to comfort her. Isabella kept staring out the window, lost in thought or sadness.

"Isabella, the flight's at 1 PM. We've got plenty of time to get to the airport," Colin said.

Isabella pressed her lips together and gave a faint smile. "Thanks."

"Don't mention it. I'm happy to help."

Isabella had thought about leaving Stellar City and living somewhere else for a while, but she couldn't because Oliver was still getting treatment abroad, and she had to pick him up.

After the divorce, the Spencer family had no obligation to keep paying for Oliver's treatment. She couldn't abandon Oliver.

They were finally going to be reunited. No matter how tough things got, she wouldn't leave Oliver.

"Colin, if— I mean, if someone asks where I went, I hope you can keep it a secret," Isabella said, though she knew in her heart that George wouldn't come looking for her.

"I will, Isabella."

The car slowly left the city, heading towards the airport.

After a morning of meetings, George suddenly felt uneasy.

He called Caleb over. "Do I have any plans this afternoon?"

Caleb checked his schedule. "There's an international meeting this afternoon. You probably won't get to rest this Sunday."

George rubbed his eyes. "Reschedule my work. I need a day off tomorrow."

"Mr. Spencer, there's an important international client tomorrow. The appointment was made a month ago..." Caleb said awkwardly.

"Reschedule." George pointed to his cup, and Caleb quickly made him a cup of coffee and handed it over, saying, "Rescheduling might not look good."

George was always meticulous about work, never rescheduling an appointment before.

Caleb couldn't understand what was so important that he had to reschedule such an important meeting this time.

"I promised Isabella I'd take her to the amusement park tomorrow. I can't break my promise," George explained.

Caleb suddenly understood. "I'll reschedule with the client."

"You handle it."

George took a sip of coffee and picked up his phone, scrolling through Facebook. His Facebook was mostly filled with business partners and a few friends.

Isabella had only recently been added to his Facebook.

Looking at Isabella's profile picture, which was a rabbit missing a front tooth, he smiled.

What an interesting girl.

He pressed the voice message button, just about to send her a message when the door to the president's office was knocked on again.
