Chapter 59 He Is Not a Vegetative Patient at All
'Forget it. Who needs love anyway?' Isabella thought.
After saying goodbye to Ruby, George got into the car.
Rubbing his temples, he reached for his phone.
"Seen my phone?" he asked.
The driver checked around and said, "No, maybe you left it at the office."
"Take me back to the office," George instructed.
"Yes, sir."
Back at the Spencer Group, George found his phone on the desk.
He picked it up and saw a message from Isabella: "I can't come home."
He checked the time; it was just after work. It had started to rain.
'Damn, Isabella might be caught in the rain,' he thought.
Grabbing his coat, George quickly left the office.
Despite the rain, the driver sped up.
George ran straight upstairs without changing his shoes.
He opened the bedroom door; the small orange nightlight wasn't on.
Bringing a chill with him, he approached the bed. He warmed his hands with his breath before gently holding her hand.
Isabella slowly opened her eyes, looked at him, and pulled her hand back.
"Did you get caught in the rain? Why didn't you call Caleb?" he asked softly.
"I didn't get caught in the rain," she said flatly.
"Sorry, I didn't see your message in time," he explained.
"It's okay," Isabella said, but her tone was distant.
He wanted to hug her, but she moved away. "I'm tired, I'm going to sleep."
George thought she was just upset. He took a shower and then got into bed, pressing her down and kissing her.
Usually, when Isabella was upset, making love to her would make things better.
Today should be no different, George thought.
Isabella didn't resist. When George asked for forgiveness, she said she forgave him.
Everything seemed fine, as if all the unhappiness had vanished.
On Saturday morning, Isabella got up after George went to the office.
She sat on the balcony, lost in thought, until her phone rang. She answered slowly, "Hello?"
"Isabella, let's meet," said a familiar voice.
Isabella glanced at the unfamiliar number. "Who is this?"
"I'm Juniper. I think you might want to know something about George."
"Sorry, I'm not interested," Isabella said calmly.
"George has been lying to you, and you're head over heels for him. Don't you think that's foolish?"
"What does that have to do with you?" Isabella said before hanging up.
Though she said she wasn't interested, Juniper's words stirred something inside her.
Not loving her was one thing, but deceiving her was too much.
Feeling restless at home, Isabella decided to go for a walk.
After a while, she ducked into a coffee shop and ordered a cappuccino to warm up.
"I knew you'd want to know," Juniper said.
Isabella felt uneasy. 'Is she stalking me?' she thought.
Juniper took off her sunglasses and mask, sitting across from Isabella. "Looks like you really hate me."
"Not just dislike, hate. Considering what you did to me, it's a miracle I'm not hitting you," Isabella replied.
"If you don't bring it up, I might forget," Juniper said, ordering a latte. "Do you know why the Garcia family disappeared from Stellar City?"
Isabella wondered, 'Does this have to do with George?'
"You're George's wife. When Nathan harassed you, it shamed the Spencer family. They couldn't let the Garcia family stay," Juniper explained.
'The Spencer family forced them out to save face?' Isabella thought.
Seeing Isabella's doubt, Juniper added, "Even if you don't know all of George's methods, you know he's capable. Do you think the Garcia family had a good ending? Remember, you embarrassed the Spencer family."
"Nathan deserved punishment for trying to harm me," Isabella said, sipping her coffee.
"He did, but did Elodie and Nathan's mom deserve it too? George isn't as gentle as he seems. He's cunning and unpredictable. He may seem to love you, but can you really get his true heart? I'm living proof. Maybe you don't know, but George wasn't actually in a vegetative state," Juniper revealed.
Isabella's heart tightened. "What do you mean?"
"George woke up a few days after the car accident. To find out who betrayed him and uncover the company's mole, he pretended to be in a vegetative state for six months. Do you think an ordinary person could endure that?" Juniper said.
Isabella felt weak, almost dropping her cup.
Juniper, pleased with Isabella's reaction, continued, "I found out later. I left him because I thought he was in a vegetative state. He fooled everyone, including the Spencer family. So, do you still think he truly loves you?"
Isabella was silent. She remembered a basketball game, the man in the black mask. It must have been George. She recalled their eyes meeting. He was with Daniel, so Daniel must have known. No wonder George's muscles didn't atrophy. He was faking it. George was a great actor.
"He's ruthless and will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. Isabella, you won't find happiness with him," Juniper advised.
Isabella slowly lifted her long, curly eyelashes and asked, "If he's so bad, why did you go to such lengths to have his child?"
