Chapter 51 He Just Likes Actresses
George apologized again, and Isabella accepted. "So, should I..."
Before she could finish, her phone rang.
Isabella glanced at the unknown number but answered. "Hello?"
"Is this Isabella?"
"Yes, it is."
"This is the Spencer Group's interview team. Due to some personnel changes, we need to re-interview you. If you're still interested, please prepare and come in three days."
Isabella looked at George, who shrugged, clueless.
Isabella valued this chance since it was her first interview ever. "Alright, I'll be there."
"Okay."
The interviewer hung up, sweating, and turned to Caleb. "Caleb, we didn't know she was important to the CEO. You need to explain this to Mr. Spencer."
"Mr. Spencer is very angry. Good luck dealing with that," Caleb said, then left. The head of the interview team hurriedly saw him out, pleading, "Caleb, we promise not to make such a mistake again. Please speak to Mr. Spencer for us."
Caleb walked straight into the elevator without a word.
The interview team members wiped their foreheads.
Isabella felt a bit better and said, "If I knew it was this hard to get into the Spencer Group, even with you, I wouldn't have come. If I get eliminated again, it would be so embarrassing."
George gently patted her back. "No confidence?"
"I thought I could rely on you, so I was confident. But I didn't expect to go through the formal process. I'm just a college student who hasn't graduated yet. Where would I get the confidence?" Isabella admitted.
"How about skipping the interview and joining directly?" he suggested.
Isabella shook her head. "No, I already agreed."
"It doesn't matter if you agreed. I have the final say," George said, looking at her lovingly.
"Now you have the final say? Why didn't you say so earlier?" Isabella pouted, annoyed.
George thought she was being playful. Isabella's anger flared up quickly but also faded just as fast. A good meal always resolved it.
Three days later, Isabella was well-prepared for the interview, bringing all her school awards.
The interview went smoothly, but Isabella wasn't placed in the design department. Instead, she was assigned to the CEO's secretary department as an intern assistant.
Molly was thrilled to see Isabella in the same department and pulled her aside, asking, "Weren't you applying for the design department? How did you end up in the secretary department?"
Isabella replied, "They said the secretary department is short-staffed, so they asked me to come over."
"That's great! Now we can work together," Molly said happily.
No one in the secretary department knew about Isabella's relationship with George, except for Caleb, who dropped by occasionally.
So, she often heard a lot of gossip about George.
Molly, who was about the same age, became a good friend Isabella could talk to.
"I heard the spokesperson for the Spencer Group's next quarter has been decided. Guess who it is?" a colleague whispered.
Another colleague asked, "Who? Is it Cher?"
"Keep it down. I heard it's her. She's much prettier than Juniper. Do you think there will be rumors about her and George?"
"Yeah, George likes actresses. Juniper and two other actresses were all top beauties."
Though their voices were low, they didn't avoid Molly and Isabella.
Molly nudged Isabella. "Do you believe it?"
"Believe what?" Isabella asked.
"Do you believe George has had so many affairs with actresses?" Molly asked.
Isabella wasn't sure. She knew George had dated Juniper, his only publicly acknowledged girlfriend, but hadn't heard about the other two actresses. Besides, those two were already married. Spreading such rumors wasn't good.
"Just rumors," Isabella said.
"I think so too. George seems so aloof and dedicated to his work. He doesn't look like a playboy."
Isabella was surprised by Molly's high opinion of George. She thought Molly would enjoy the gossip.
"People can't be judged by appearances," Isabella said with a smile.
Before Molly could respond, the gossiping colleagues spoke up, "That's because you don't know George. He's so handsome and rich. Actresses come to him. We used to have actresses visiting here often."
Isabella remained noncommittal.
Molly just shook her head.
Seeing that Molly and Isabella didn't believe her, the colleague took out her phone, finding an old commercial. "Look, this is from a few years ago when George personally shot a Spencer Group commercial with the spokesperson at the time."
The commercial depicted a love story between a young man and woman, naturally involving intimate and romantic scenes. The actress was Juniper, who later became George's girlfriend.
"When they shot this, Juniper wasn't George's girlfriend yet. She became his only acknowledged girlfriend after they slept together. I also heard..." The colleague beckoned the others closer and whispered, "I heard Juniper has an illegitimate child, and it's George's."
"What?" Isabella reacted strongly.
The colleague shushed her. "Keep it down. A paparazzo once snapped a pic of Juniper taking a baby to the hospital, and rumor has it the kid might be George's from when they were together."
Molly scoffed, "If it were George's child, wouldn't they have come forward by now? Why hide it? Juniper isn't stupid."
"Maybe the time isn't right yet. But I think it will be soon," the colleague finished mysteriously and left.
Isabella hadn't expected to hear such things, feeling lost. 'If it's true, should I leave?' she thought.
Isabella was very upset, feeling dazed and out of sorts all day.
When she returned to the Spencer Manor, it felt just as cold and desolate, with Patricia at the church and John following her.
