Chapter 5 Rough and Savage Actions
Isabella quickly moved the pillow behind her and forced a smile. "It's nothing, I just forgot to put it down."
She casually tossed the pillow, and it landed right on George's head with a thud.
John, startled, put down the milk and rushed over. "Please be careful! If you hurt Mr. Spencer, what are we going to do?"
Isabella hadn't expected to hit George's head. "Sorry, I didn't mean to."
"You need to be more careful. Mr. Spencer is already a patient. If he gets hurt again, it won't be good. You need to change your careless demeanor."
"Got it."
After a busy day, Isabella fell asleep as soon as she lay down. Other people's wedding nights are usually happy and exciting. They have a grand ceremony and then spend the night with their beloved. Just thinking about it is wonderful. But her wedding had no ceremony, and her husband was in a vegetative state. Isabella felt a bit sad. Thinking about it, she slept until the next day.
In the morning, before Isabella woke up, John came in with a basin of hot water. After setting it down, he also poured a cup of mouthwash and stood respectfully by the bed.
"Mrs. Spencer, it's time to help Mr. Spencer wash up."
John's voice woke Isabella. She rubbed her eyes and looked at the old man with the graying beard. "How did you get in here?"
"Mr. Spencer needs to wash up at this time every day, so I brought you the water and mouthwash," John answered indirectly.
John was very respectful. Isabella looked at him and couldn't be bothered to argue. "Then you do it."
John didn't move. "Mrs. Patricia Spencer said that from now on, you will be responsible for taking care of Mr. Spencer."
Isabella thought, 'With so many servants, why does it have to be me? Am I a maid or something?'
"Then you can leave."
This time, John obediently disappeared in a flash. Isabella went to the bathroom, grabbed a wet towel, and with resentment, threw it onto George's face. She then sat directly on him, pinned down his arms, and quickly wiped his face. Her movements were rough and wild. She didn't like being bossed around by servants, and besides, she wasn't good at taking care of others.
George's fingertips moved ever so slightly. If someone had seen it, they would have been shocked. And this scene was just witnessed by Patricia as she walked in. She was horrified and rushed to Isabella. "Why are you sitting on him? Are you wiping his face or scrubbing the floor? He'll be in pain."
Patricia gently removed the towel from George's face and softly wiped his face and hands before instructing Isabella, "It's my fault for not teaching you how to take care of George before letting you do it yourself."
Patricia's reprimand made Isabella a bit resentful. Why was everyone lecturing her? If they thought she wasn't doing a good job, they should do it themselves. But as a daughter-in-law, she had to bow her head. "I'm sorry, Patricia."
"You've never taken care of anyone before. I'll show you how. Watch and learn." Patricia's tone was gentle, but her expression was not pleasant.
Isabella responded with an "Oh."
After Patricia left, Isabella threw a pillow onto George's face and angrily began to complain. "It's just wiping a face, what's so painful about it? Men have thick skin. It's not like I'm going to scrub off a layer. I may not have lived a good life, but I've never been a servant. If it weren't for my mom's house and my brother, I wouldn't be taking care of you, a vegetable."
