Chapter 39 Agreement
Elodie said, "I heard Sierra's mom blew through the hundreds of thousands you gave her at the casino. She lost it all in a few days and then demanded more from Sierra. If Sierra didn't give it to her, she'd beat her. Now I get why Sierra's so desperate to climb the social ladder; it's probably because of her mom."
Isabella was shocked. "I didn't expect Sierra's family to be like this. I thought they were just greedy for money. It's sad."
"She could get a job and support herself. If things got bad, Simon would help her. She just needs to leave her mom," Isabella said.
Elodie shook her head. "It's not that simple. Plus, Simon's just having fun. Once he's bored, he'll dump her. He won't spend much on her. These rich kids always have women around."
'That makes sense,' Isabella thought.
Elodie warned, "Be careful. Sierra might retaliate because of her messed-up mind."
"If she has time to retaliate, she should think about making money," Isabella replied.
Elodie mentioned she'd take some time off to visit her grandparents with Brenda.
So, it was just Isabella and Colin painting together.
One day, the Spencer family's lawyer found Isabella after they finished painting the school playground.
In a café, the lawyer handed her a document. "Mrs. Spencer, please sign this first. The house transfer can proceed immediately."
'There are few words on the document, but each one is piercing. Signing this is like selling myself to the Spencer family. If George doesn't file for divorce, no matter how many women he has, I can't leave. I saw this coming when I made the deal with Patricia, but seeing it in black and white still hurts,' Isabella thought.
The lawyer tapped the table, snapping Isabella out of her thoughts. "Mrs. Spencer, please sign."
Isabella smiled slightly, picked up the pen, and signed her name. "Shall we handle the property deed now?"
The lawyer glanced at the document. "Immediately."
The property transfer went smoothly. Holding the deed with her name on it, Isabella felt a mix of emotions.
'The house is finally back, but I feel lost,' she thought.
Isabella wanted to lock it in the safe Hazel had left her but didn't have the key. She tried several passwords, but none worked.
As a last hope, Isabella entered her and Oliver's birthdates. The lock clicked open.
The safe, though small, contained many bank cards.
Isabella roughly calculated that Hazel had left her deposits totaling tens of millions of dollars.
Suddenly inheriting tens of millions, she was dazed.
Besides the deposits, there were various pieces of Hazel's jewelry, stock certificates, and proofs of Hazel's overseas investments.
All in all, Hazel had left her assets worth over a hundred million dollars.
Isabella had become a bona fide wealthy person.
But right now, she couldn't feel happy. She'd traded her freedom to the Spencer family for money, and now, even with all this money, she couldn't buy her freedom back.
She couldn't leave these assets to Oliver unless his illness was completely cured, which seemed almost impossible.
Isabella put everything away and sat in a daze for a long time. 'Even if George agrees to divorce me one day, would I be willing to leave? People are complex and greedy. I'm no exception.'
When George came back, he asked about the house transfer. Isabella kept it brief, "Patricia made me sign an agreement. If the house wasn't transferred, it would be a breach of trust."
George looked at her cold, indifferent face, confused. "What agreement?"
"Stop pretending. Your whole family is a bunch of fakes," Isabella snapped, not wanting to talk.
George genuinely didn't know what agreement Patricia had made Isabella sign. He needed to find out, so he went to Patricia's room, where Thalia happened to be.
He got straight to the point, "Patricia, what agreement did you make Isabella sign?"
Patricia didn't avoid the topic and showed George the document signed by Isabella with her fingerprint. "This one."
The document was full of threats and unfair terms.
George was already angry just reading it, let alone being the one who had to sign it.
"Why did you make her sign this?" George asked harshly.
Thalia jumped in before Patricia could explain, "George, don't be ungrateful. Aunt Patricia did this for your own good. If not for you, would she have made Isabella sign this? Besides, getting her house back cost Aunt Patricia a lot of money. Shouldn't she pay some price?"
"Shut up. Is it your place to speak here?" For the first time, George scolded Thalia. She said, hurt, "George, you're scolding me for Isabella?"
Patricia gently comforted the tearful Thalia and then looked at George. "This is just an enhanced version of the original agreement. Think about it. If she gets the house and can leave anytime, what happens to everything we have done for her? Leaving should come at a price. That's only fair."
"Patricia, she's a person, not a pet," George said.
"I know, but it's just a piece of paper. She's still your wife, still free. She can do whatever she wants, go wherever she wants, whether in the Spencer family, in Stellar City, or anywhere in the country or the world," Patricia said.
George took a deep breath, folded the agreement, and put it in his pocket. "Alright, I'm going back."
Thalia wrinkled her nose at George's back and said, "Aunt Patricia, George really can't tell good from bad. Have you forgotten how Isabella was flirting with that man on Trevor's birthday?"
"Why don't you wish George well? How does Isabella's infidelity benefit you?" Patricia didn't want to hear any more rumors about Isabella.
But Thalia insisted, "That man is Isabella's first love, Aunt Patricia. Don't be confused about this."
"Alright, George will handle it himself. I'm tired and need to rest. You should leave," Patricia said, sending Thalia out of the room.
When George returned to his room, Isabella was already lying down, clearly not wanting to talk to him. George didn't bother her either.
George lay quietly on the bed, but Isabella couldn't sleep.
Her mind was filled with many grievances, not just about Patricia making her sign the agreement, but also about George's relationship with Juniper.
"George?" Isabella voiced.
