Chapter 37 My Wife Is Not Interested
It was Nathan.
'How could he be in the same car with Juniper and show up together?' Isabella thought.
Something felt off, like there was some mysterious force at play.
Isabella's face went pale, her mood and expression complicated.
The reporters were going nuts. Every media outlet in Stellar City knew about George and Juniper's past.
Juniper was the only girlfriend George had ever publicly acknowledged.
Ex-girlfriend, current wife—this gossip was juicy.
Right then, the eye contact between Nathan and Isabella, who was following Juniper, became the focus of the reporters' cameras.
'What's going on here? Are these two pairs each other's exes?' a reporter thought.
The host outside, all hyped up, raised the microphone to Isabella and asked, "Mrs. Spencer, may I ask..."
George pushed the microphone aside and said, "She won't answer any questions."
"Are you afraid your wife and your ex-girlfriend will have a conflict?" the host asked boldly.
George's face darkened. The host had angered him. He snapped, "Why do you talk so much? What does it have to do with you?"
"Mr. Spencer, you haven't answered my question yet..." the host said awkwardly.
Isabella quickly looked away and followed George into the hotel.
Trevor was already seated at the main table. Seeing George and Isabella walking hand in hand, he stood up to greet them. "George is here." Trevor shook George's hand, and while exchanging pleasantries, his eyes swept over Isabella's face. "Isabella has grown up."
Isabella forced an awkward smile. "Happy birthday, Trevor."
'I never expected Isabella to marry into the Spencer family. Before George's incident, I thought of introducing my biological granddaughter to him and even mentioned it to Patricia. Patricia was in favor, but George didn't agree, so it was put on hold. Later, when George had his accident, the socialites who once admired him in Stellar City all backed off, and naturally, I wouldn't let my granddaughter jump into that pit. Unexpectedly, George married Isabella and miraculously woke up,' Trevor thought.
"Isabella, Hazel and Lester passed away early, and I haven't been in good health these years, so I couldn't take care of you. You don't blame me, do you?" Trevor said.
'He's just like that. Clearly wanting to draw a line, he has to make himself look deeply affectionate, pretending to be guilty and regretful,' Isabella thought, feeling instinctively disgusted.
"You didn't have much contact with Isabella to begin with, so it's understandable that you couldn't take care of her. She doesn't blame you," George said.
"Isabella has always been a sensible child." This time it was Trevor's turn to feel awkward.
George handed over the gift, and Trevor was very pleased and invited him inside. "It's rare for you to come today. You two sit down and rest for a while. I'll go greet the other guests."
"Go ahead," George said.
The music started, and people gradually stepped onto the dance floor, dancing gracefully.
Not interested in such social activities, Isabella stood quietly by George's side, politely declining invitations.
"Is it that you don't want to dance, or you don't know how?" George asked.
Isabella said lightly, "I don't want to, and I don't really know how."
Nathan walked over and looked at Isabella. Like the other men who had invited her to dance, he politely extended his hand and asked, "May I have this dance?"
Nathan had a refined appearance and an elegant demeanor. Isabella didn't dare let her gaze linger on him for too long and awkwardly declined, "Sorry, I don't really want to dance."
"Are you afraid Mr. Spencer won't agree?" Nathan almost provocatively looked at George beside Isabella. "I don't think he would be that petty, would he?"
Although George hadn't inquired about Isabella and Nathan's past, he could sense the tension between them today.
"Mr. Garcia, saying that makes me seem a bit unreasonable." Just as George was about to let go, Isabella suddenly tightened her grip. He glanced at their interlocked fingers for a moment before looking up and said, "It seems my wife isn't interested in dancing today."
The confrontation between men, the storm and bloodshed, all happened without a word.
"Not interested, or just scared?" Nathan blurted out.
Compared to Nathan's aggressiveness, George appeared calm and composed. "You'd have to ask Isabella."
When Nathan's gaze fell on Isabella again, he said, "I have something to say to you. Can't you give me ten minutes?"
His words put Isabella in a very awkward position. 'Leaving alone with a man with an unclear relationship in front of George for ten minutes seems unreasonable.'
But George, fearing Isabella would be troubled, spoke up, "It seems Mr. Garcia indeed has something urgent. It's just ten minutes. I won't be that petty."
In the end, Isabella let go of George's hand and entered the dance floor with Nathan.
As soon as Isabella stepped onto the dance floor, Juniper, holding a glass of wine, approached George and asked, "Won't you ask me for a dance?"
George glanced at her emotionlessly and said, "You've got the wrong person."
Juniper looked in the direction of Isabella and Nathan, then lowered her head and chuckled, "It seems you don't know much about Isabella's past."
"And how much do you know about her?" George said calmly.
"At least I know they liked each other when they were fifteen or sixteen." Juniper took a sip of red wine. "Such feelings are the hardest to let go, aren't they?"
George just glanced at Isabella and Nathan on the dance floor without saying a word.
"Nathan, what exactly do you want? Didn't I make it clear to you? We never started. You're making things difficult for me, you know that?"
Isabella was very angry. 'Your confrontation with George, if George is a petty person, would only bring harm to me or you,' she thought.
"If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be here today. Isabella, I like you. I don't want to sit idly by. George will divorce you sooner or later." Nathan's confident demeanor was very confusing.
Isabella pursed her lips. "Talk about it after the divorce."
"Isabella," Nathan said but hesitated.
'I know Nathan's regret outweighs his affection. Back then, he didn't confess, which is a regret. Knowing I married George is also a regret. But is it really because he loves me? Maybe a little, but definitely not entirely,' she thought.
"Nathan, you know my current situation. Hazel's house hasn't been reclaimed and Oliver's treatment requires expensive medication, which makes it impossible for me to leave the Spencer family. Besides, you only feel unsatisfied because you didn't get me, isn't that right?" Isabella said.
