Chapter 28 Everything Is the Best Arrangement
'This is my first kiss,' Isabella thought.
George's slender fingers cupped her face, a feeling she had never experienced.
She was both excited and hesitant, unsure how to handle this sudden closeness, so she just held her breath.
The kiss was brief. 'I don't get George. After the kiss, he's ready to sleep. Isn't this supposed to lead to something more? Guess he's not that into me,' she thought.
Isabella felt hurt. 'If he doesn't want to be close, why kiss me?' she wondered.
She moved George's hand from her waist and turned away.
Sensing her anger, George pulled her back. "Are you mad?"
"No," she replied.
"Really? Mad about the kiss?" he asked.
Isabella glared. "If I were mad about the kiss, I would've slapped you."
George smirked. "Then what's wrong?"
"Nothing, just sleep."
‘Seriously, he gets women but acts clueless,’ she thought.
"Can you sleep?" George asked.
Isabella turned away, pushing him. "It's none of your business if I sleep or not..."
Before she could finish, George kissed her again, more forcefully.
George, being a normal guy, had been holding back, worried she'd be scared.
Just as things heated up, George's phone rang.
Without checking the caller, he put it on speaker and kept kissing Isabella.
A woman's voice came through. "George, it's Juniper. My car broke down, and I'm stuck in a remote area. Can you come get me?"
George stopped, and Isabella was stunned.
'Is it that Juniper?' she thought.
George grabbed the phone and turned off the speaker. "Send me the address."
He hung up as Isabella pulled the blanket over herself, staring at him.
George got dressed without looking at her. "I'll be back soon. You go to sleep."
He left.
Isabella laughed bitterly. 'My husband goes to pick up another woman in the middle of the night, and I don't even stop him,' she thought.
The black Maybach sped through the empty streets of Stellar City.
The GPS led to a suburban spot, and George's eyes were intense.
When he saw Juniper, she was leaning against her car, smoking. Her seductive look and calm demeanor didn't match someone stranded.
"George," Juniper said, walking towards him, trying to hug him, but he dodged.
"What's up? It's late, I'm alone out here. Can't I get a hug?" Juniper complained.
George lit a cigarette and looked down. "Why did you call me here?"
Juniper pouted. "Why so direct?"
"If there's nothing, I'm leaving," George said coldly.
"There is," Juniper stopped him. "Still as moody as ever."
George took a deep drag, looking at her. Juniper's eyes were shifty, whether from guilt or something else.
"I heard your mom got you a wife, and you just went along with it?" Juniper asked.
George looked up, seeing right through Juniper's thoughts. He knew exactly what she was thinking, probing, and planning.
"You have no chance," he said, crushing her hopes.
"George, are you really okay with the woman your mom picked? She has no background, no connections, and can't help you. How am I worse than her?" Juniper asked.
"In every way, you're better, but you can't be Mrs. Spencer," he replied.
Juniper pressed against him. "Aren't you afraid I'll marry Joseph?"
"That's your choice," he said indifferently.
Juniper fumed. "Aren't you worried the Young Group will team up with Joseph to bring you down again?"
George sneered. "You can try."
Juniper took a deep breath. "George, no one will love you more than I do. That woman only loves your money and the title of Mrs. Spencer. Once she gets what she wants, she'll leave you."
George finished his cigarette and crushed it underfoot. "If you called me here just to say this, then go back."
"George," Juniper hugged him as he was about to leave. "I know you were mad at me for not being there when you were sick. I was scared. I never wanted to give up on you. Can you forgive me?"
George gently pushed her away. "Everything happens for a reason."
"What if I force you to choose between me and her? Would you still choose her?" Juniper's eyes filled with tears, her hands trembling as she held his arm.
"This was never a choice," George said calmly, his tone naturally authoritative.
"Fine," Juniper nodded, disappointed. "I hope you won't regret it."
'I will never regret anything. I have the strength to make those who harmed me and those who try to harm me pay,' George thought.
The car sped through the night like a silent hawk.
George felt an urgency to return home. For the first time in twenty-seven years, he cared so much about a woman.
When he got home, it was already early morning.
Isabella was asleep, and he should sleep too.
The next day, Isabella woke up and didn't see George.
'Did he come back last night? Didn't come back? It makes sense if he didn't.'
After washing up, she went downstairs. Patricia was already in the dining room with a sumptuous breakfast to nourish Isabella.
"Are you going to school today?" Patricia asked.
Isabella nodded. "I have an exam today."
"Then eat something first. I made some soup for you and your favorite desserts."
Patricia's love made Isabella feel warm. Maybe because of last night's hurt, Isabella's eyes welled up, and she hugged Patricia.
Patricia, thinking it was because of yesterday's scare, gently patted her back. "Don't be afraid, it's all over. George and I will protect you from now on."
"Thank you," Isabella said.
As Patricia promised, besides John, two tall bodyguards escorted Isabella to school.
They followed her at a distance after dropping her off.
