Chapter 27 Is Mrs. Spencer Really That Impressive?
Isabella scoffed, "You better wise up, or don't blame me."
Joseph cursed and lunged at her.
The police arrived first, with George's car right behind.
They subdued the guards outside. Just as they were about to open the door to rescue Isabella, they heard Joseph scream inside.
George walked up to the cabin.
A cop said, "Looks like Mrs. Spencer handled herself pretty well. How about a break?"
George nodded, handed the cop a cigarette, "Let's wait a bit longer."
Joseph's screams turned into pleas for mercy. Then, the door opened to a shocking scene.
Isabella had her foot on Joseph's face. His arms and legs were dislocated and twisted together.
The cop swallowed hard, "Is Mrs. Spencer really that tough?"
George's Adam's apple bobbed, "Must be her potential."
Isabella clapped her hands, kicked Joseph aside, and walked over, "Here to save me?"
George nodded slowly, "Yes."
"Well, you're late. I handled it." Isabella swaggered out as the cop gave George a thumbs-up.
Watching the police load her kidnappers into patrol cars, Isabella shouted, "Leave these two for me."
The two brothers who kidnapped her were brought in front of her. The younger one had red eyes and a tear-streaked face.
"Stop crying. When you kidnapped me, you didn't cry. Do you know this can ruin someone's life?" Isabella said.
The younger man nodded frantically, "We won't do it again. We needed money for our mom's surgery."
Isabella looked at the older man, who had knocked her out twice. He still held his chin up, showing no remorse. "What about you?" she asked.
The older man didn't answer.
The younger one tugged his sleeve, "Admit you were wrong. I don't want to go to jail."
Feeling pity, the older man's head lowered, "We were wrong. My brother is young. If someone has to go, take me. Please don't take him."
"It's not up to me. The police decide. Since you did this for your mom and I wasn't harmed, I'll tell them not to press charges. Take care of yourselves," Isabella said.
With Joseph taken away, Isabella got into the car with George heading back to Stellar City.
"I had John make some soup. When we get back, take a bath and rest," George said gently.
Isabella glanced at him, expecting an explanation.
"And then?" she asked.
George looked puzzled.
"George, Joseph kidnapped me to get back at you. I'm the scapegoat, and you're just brushing it off?" Isabella said angrily.
"I'm not brushing it off," George said.
"You clearly are, and you won't admit it."
George didn't want to argue, so he said apologetically, "Joseph targeted you because of me. I'll make it up to you."
"How?" she asked.
George handed her a black card, "Take this. Use it."
Isabella glanced at it but didn't take it, "What's the catch?"
"There's $200,000 in it. I'll deposit $200,000 every month as your allowance," he explained.
'I've heard wealthy wives get allowances. Now it's me? $200,000 a month, over $2 million a year. With holidays and birthdays, maybe more. Plus, Patricia might give me pocket money. I could get quite rich,' she thought.
Isabella was so happy she forgot to scold George.
"Since you're so sincere, I'll let it slide." She took the card and pocketed it.
'$200,000 might not be much to the Spencer family, but to Isabella, it's significant,' George thought, smiling lightly.
Back at Spencer Manor, Patricia finally felt relieved. She looked Isabella over to make sure she wasn't hurt, then said, "This can't be let go. Tomorrow, I'll talk to Debra and have Joseph removed from the family history."
"I'm fine," Isabella said.
'Joseph is in custody, and with George's influence, he won't get out easily. Being removed from the family history doesn't seem that important,' she thought.
She forgot the Spencer family wasn't ordinary. Not just anyone could keep the Spencer name.
"Patricia, I'll talk to Debra," George said.
"That's fine." Patricia held Isabella's hand, "As long as Isabella is okay, I'm relieved. From now on, I'll hire two bodyguards to stay with her at all times. We can't let anything happen to her again."
Patricia instructed the servants to prepare a bath for Isabella and watched her drink the soup before letting her go upstairs to rest.
After her bath, Isabella came out to find George lying down with a laptop, working. When he saw her, he closed it.
"Why aren't you asleep?" she asked.
"Waiting for you," he answered.
Isabella bit her lip, "You don't have to wait for me. Just go to sleep."
"What are you afraid of?" He patted the bed, "Come here."
"Who's afraid?" She was just embarrassed and exhausted from the day's events. She wanted to rest.
Feeling uncomfortable, Isabella lay down. George pulled her into his arms.
She tried to push him away, "What are you doing?"
"Sleeping," he said.
"Why are you holding me while sleeping?"
"Why can't I?"
"It's uncomfortable," she said.
"Then you hold me," George said.
'What does he mean by that?' she thought.
"Let's sleep separately." She was about to turn over when George held her down and kissed her.
The sudden touch made Isabella freeze, her eyes widening in shock.
'What is happening? Why is George kissing me?'
