Chapter 16 This Basketball Player is So Cool
When the ref blew the final whistle, the local club team beat Stellar University's basketball team.
Seeing Grant's disappointed face, Elodie ran out, shouting, "Elodie, wait for me."
Both teams changed and slowly left the venue. In the crowd, a guy in a black mask accidentally made eye contact with Isabella.
Before Isabella could get a good look, he put on his sunglasses and left with the team.
Daniel saw Isabella and greeted her.
"Daniel, you guys were amazing, beating our team. Congrats," Isabella said sincerely.
Daniel glanced at the guy next to him in sunglasses and a black mask and said modestly, "It's all thanks to my teammates."
Isabella then looked at the MVP standing next to Daniel, dressed all in black with a black baseball cap and mask. The only splash color was the gold rim on his sunglasses.
Isabella awkwardly smiled, "Your teammate is quite mysterious."
Daniel smiled lightly and said, "We have to go now."
"Goodbye, Daniel," Isabella said.
Elodie walked over, red-eyed and dejected. Isabella hugged her, "It's just a game."
"Isabella, Grant has a girlfriend. I don't want to like him anymore," Elodie cried.
Isabella stayed silent.
Back at Spencer Manor, Isabella took a shower and lay next to George, eagerly recounting her day.
"Elodie has a crush on Grant, but he has a girlfriend. She was so upset, like someone took her favorite candy. Today's game was exciting. There was a tall masked guy; I bet he's handsome. But," Isabella propped her head up, looking at George, "none of them are as handsome as you."
Isabella's gaze moved to George's hand, and she held it, "Your fingers are beautiful too."
George's hand was dry, warm, and his nails were clean. Holding it felt comforting. This was the first time Isabella held a man's hand, feeling both strange and familiar.
Gaining courage, Isabella rested her head on his arm, snuggling beside him with a tender expression.
"Having a man to rely on is really nice," Isabella said.
'His body was soft and warm, and I could even put my cold feet on his stomach. Although George couldn't speak, he could warm the bed,' she thought.
Isabella closed her eyes, smiling like a child who had stolen candy.
Sleeping with something warm for the first time, Isabella slept soundly.
Early the next morning, Patricia, who hadn't been to their bedroom in a while, opened the door and saw a loving scene.
Isabella's arm was draped over George's chest, her face resting on his neck, and her leg on his stomach. Even with someone entering, she didn't wake up.
Seeing this, John worried Isabella might crush George and wanted to wake her, but Patricia stopped him. "Let her sleep a little longer."
"Mrs. Patricia Spencer, I'm afraid Mr. Spencer can't bear it," John said worriedly.
Patricia turned and walked out, "Even if George is sick, he's still a man. He can handle it."
"Yes, ma'am," John replied.
When Isabella woke up, she stretched lazily and said, "Good morning, George."
She happily got out of bed to wash up.
Yesterday, Elodie cried like the world had ended. Today, she insisted Isabella go shopping with her all day, threatening to end their friendship if she didn't.
With her bag on her back and singing, Isabella almost bumped into Daniel as she walked out the door.
She quickly composed herself and smiled, "Good morning, Daniel."
Daniel nodded, catching her good mood, and smiled back, "Good morning. Going out early?"
"You guys beat our Stellar University's Grant yesterday. His fans are upset, so I have to cheer up my friend."
"Please apologize to your friend for me," Daniel said.
"No problem." Isabella made an OK gesture and was about to leave when Patricia and John walked over.
Isabella straightened up and greeted, "Patricia."
"Mrs. Spencer," Daniel nodded.
"Daniel is here. Isabella, let's follow Daniel to check on George's health first. Then you can go out and play," Patricia said.
"Okay, Patricia."
After checking George's health, Daniel shared some exciting news, "George's body is fine now. He might wake up any day."
"Really? He might wake up soon?" Patricia was both happy and excited, her eyes tearing up.
Isabella didn't feel much. 'Any day means there's no exact date, so we still have to wait.'
"Yes," Daniel confirmed.
"That's great," Patricia said, hugging Isabella emotionally, "When George wakes up, everything's gonna be okay."
Isabella could somewhat understand Patricia's feelings. She glanced at the silent George on the big bed and thought, 'If he woke up, would he divorce me? After all, it is an arranged marriage. Anyway, if he could wake up, it would be a good thing.'
As Isabella was about to leave, she saw Daniel off. Seeing her low spirits, Daniel asked, "George is about to wake up. Aren't you happy?"
Isabella didn't answer but instead asked, "You grew up with George. You know him well, right?"
Daniel nodded, "What do you want to ask?"
"He must have had many girlfriends before, right?" Isabella asked.
Daniel touched his chin, looking a bit troubled. Isabella felt a bit disappointed and said, "So he must have had quite a few."
"Not quite a few, just two or three," Daniel answered.
Isabella snorted, "That's not fair."
"Not fair?" Daniel asked, puzzled.
"Yeah, he had two or three girlfriends, but I haven't had a single boyfriend," Isabella said loudly.
'Is this something to compare?' Daniel thought, confused.
"But only you became Mrs. Spencer, right?" he said.
"Do you think George would go for someone like me?" Isabella asked, lacking confidence and wanting Daniel's opinion.
'George's previous girlfriends were not like Isabella. They were either passionate, sexy, or had killer bodies. In short, they were super hot. Isabella is indeed very beautiful, but her figure is just above average. She lacks passion and enthusiasm. Honestly, I have no idea if George would go for someone like her,' Daniel thought.
