Chapter 15 George, When Will You Wake Up?
When Isabella dragged Daniel to the bedroom, Joseph saw them and got suspicious, so he followed.
Inside, Isabella pointed to George on the bed. "Daniel, check on him."
Joseph stood at the slightly open door.
After examining George, Daniel said, "He hasn't woken up."
"But he moved!" Isabella insisted.
"Could be a nerve reflex," Daniel replied calmly.
Isabella was confused but trusted Daniel's expertise. "Should I try to stimulate him more?"
"I don't think it'll help," Daniel said.
Isabella disagreed. "How will we know if we don't try?"
She tried various methods to wake George, while Joseph sweated outside the door.
George stayed unresponsive.
"Was I imagining things?" Isabella was frustrated.
"Don't worry," Daniel said, noticing a shadow disappear. "He'll wake up someday."
'But when?' Isabella wondered.
Her feelings were mixed. 'I want George to wake up, but he'd probably divorce me. And Patricia's promise is still unfulfilled. What a headache.'
Since marrying into the Spencer family, Isabella had gotten used to living with a comatose George.
Patricia told her about working at the Spencer Group. Isabella agreed, but she needed to finish her coursework first, and Patricia was fine with that.
Isabella thought, 'Maybe by then George would wake up, and I wouldn't have to go to the Spencer Group after all.'
For now, life went on.
After class, Isabella and Elodie ran into Sierra at the door.
Sierra, more arrogant than ever, bumped Isabella's shoulder, angering Elodie.
"What's her problem?" Elodie fumed.
Seeing the professor, Isabella pulled Elodie away. "Ignore her."
Elodie grumbled, "She probably found a rich guy and ditched her old sugar daddy."
Isabella had heard but didn't care.
"Aren't you curious who she hooked up with?" Elodie asked.
"Not really," Isabella shrugged.
"Well, it's Simon. She stole him from Clara and is bragging about it," Elodie said.
Isabella laughed, "Birds of a feather."
"I heard Sierra even disfigured Clara. Money makes people ruthless," Elodie sneered.
"Forget her. How's Nathan?" Isabella asked.
Elodie sighed, "He's recovering well. He's been handling paperwork to go abroad."
"Abroad?"
"Yeah, he got a job offer overseas," Elodie said, pursing her lips.
"But Mrs. Garcia's health isn't great. How can he just leave you all?" Isabella knew Nathan's decision to go abroad had something to do with her, but he should think things through as an adult.
"What can we do? Maybe Nathan needs a quiet place to recover," Elodie said, sounding down.
Isabella sensed something in Elodie's tone. "Elodie, are you blaming me too?"
"Of course not. You and Nathan never had a relationship. You know how he is—he doesn't make decisions lightly. Let him be."
Isabella sighed. "If it's because of me, it's really not worth it."
"Whether it's worth it or not, he has to decide for himself," Elodie said.
With a deep sigh, Isabella shook off her disappointment and pulled Elodie along. "Come on, let's go watch the game."
The school basketball team was playing an home game.
Isabella usually didn't like watching games, but Elodie did, especially since the team captain, Grant Adams, whom Elodie had a crush on, was playing.
When they arrived, the game hadn't started yet, so they found good seats.
"Is Grant playing forward this time?" Isabella asked.
Elodie nodded. "Yeah, don't forget to cheer for him."
"Of course."
"This time it's our school team against a local club team. I think it's a sure win for Stellar University," Elodie said proudly.
Isabella agreed. No matter how strong a local club team was, they couldn't compete with a professional basketball team.
With the referee's whistle, the game began.
In the local club team, Isabella noticed a familiar face—Daniel.
"What's he doing here?" Isabella muttered.
Elodie leaned over. "Who? Do you know him?"
"That's the Spencer family's doctor in the local club team."
Elodie waved it off. "It's a local club team, so it's normal to have people from all walks of life."
'If it's normal for Daniel, a doctor, to play, then the guy in the black face mask seems a bit odd,' Isabella thought.
"Elodie, look at that guy. Why is he covering his face?"
Elodie glanced over. "He probably has something on his face, like an allergy or a scar, and doesn't want people to see."
That made sense.
But the masked man had excellent skills and worked particularly well with Daniel, grabbing several rebounds and widening the score gap.
"Go Grant, go Stellar University! Go Grant, go Stellar University!" Elodie cheered.
Isabella joined in.
The game was intense and thrilling. The local club team had excellent skills and gradually widened the score gap.
With five minutes left, the local club team played even more aggressively, while Stellar University's team made frequent mistakes, almost ensuring their loss.
The tall masked man was likely to become the MVP.
Isabella was very curious. 'Who is he? Why is he so mysterious and yet so powerful?'
