Chapter 14 George Took Action
'I really just took a small safe that Hazel left behind before she died. It's not Lucas's, and it definitely doesn't have Donna's jewelry,' Isabella thought.
"I didn't take anything from your family. Stop making stuff up," Isabella said.
"I saw you take a safe with my own eyes," Clara insisted, trying to grab Isabella. "If you don't return it, I'll call the police."
"Which eye saw me take anything from the Jones family? I only took what's mine. Clara, today is my husband's birthday party. If you keep causing trouble, I'll call the police first."
Clara, furious, snapped back without thinking. "You married a vegetable, and you're proud of that? Who throws a birthday party for a vegetable? You guys are just—"
Before she could finish, she got slapped.
Patricia's face was fuming with anger, her eyes glaring as if she wanted to kill Clara for her words.
Clara, stunned, held her face. "Mrs. Spencer, I..."
"On Spencer family turf, you dare insult my son? It seems the Jones family no longer wishes to stay in Stellar City anymore. John," Patricia's voice was sharp with anger, "throw this woman out."
John called over two strong bodyguards, who dragged Clara out as she screamed in terror.
Patricia turned to Damon. "Damon, check tomorrow if the Spencer Group has any business with the Jones Group. Cancel all of it."
Damon nodded.
Isabella felt relieved, but Clara's accusation still stung. "Patricia, I did take a safe, but it was my mom's belongings, not the Jones family's. I didn't steal anything."
Patricia comforted her. "I know you wouldn't steal. Don't let her nonsense get to you. I believe you."
"Thank you, Patricia," Isabella said.
After the commotion, Patricia sent Isabella to rest.
Once Isabella left, Damon looked at Patricia with a complicated expression. "Is that girl from the Jones family?"
"Yes, she's Lester Neville's biological granddaughter," Patricia said.
"What are your plans for her?" Damon asked.
Patricia paused before saying, "Isabella knows medicine that can help George recover. Plus, she's straightforward and honest. I like her. I want her to work at the company. What do you think?"
"She's Lucas's daughter. Didn't you just say to cancel all the Jones Group's orders? Aren't you worried..." Damon said.
Patricia understood Damon's concern but replied, "If she has ulterior motives, we can't guard against it. If she doesn't, it proves my judgment is right, doesn't it?"
"This is too risky. Joseph has already turned the Spencer Group upside down. If Isabella causes more trouble, the consequences will be unimaginable," Damon disagreed. After George's illness, the Spencer Group was in crisis. Bringing in someone unknown could only make things worse.
"We don't know when George will wake up. Putting Isabella in the company will make Joseph cautious. It's a way to keep him in check, right?" Patricia said.
Damon saw her point but knew it wasn't a simple decision. "You should ask Isabella what she thinks."
"Yes, I'll handle it," Patricia replied.
Isabella returned to the bedroom, glancing at George lying on the bed out of habit. Then, as if he wasn't there, she dialed Lucas's number.
He answered quickly, sounding more pleasant than when he forced her to marry. "Isabella, is something wrong? How are you doing at the Spencer family? I've been worried about you."
"I'm not here for small talk. Did you tell Donna and Clara that I took a safe?" Isabella asked.
Lucas hesitated before responding, "You did take a safe, didn't you?"
Isabella was furious. 'He's playing dumb. That safe clearly belonged to Hazel, and he knows it.'
"That was Hazel's stuff, not the Jones family's. How could Donna's jewelry be in there? You know exactly where her jewelry went," Isabella said.
"You've really grown bold since marrying into the Spencer family. Is this how you talk to me? Listen to your tone," Lucas scolded, dodging the topic.
Isabella took a deep breath. "Don't think I don't know about your mistresses. I don't want to meddle, but if you frame me, I won't stand for it."
She hung up, not wanting to hear more of his lies. 'How could a man frame his own daughter as a thief for his own sake? Hazel never knew until her death that the man she loved had not only Donna but countless other lovers,' Isabella thought.
"George, if you wake up, will you also go out and find other women? Will you keep mistresses too? Of course, you will. If a man like Lucas can have fun outside, how much more so for someone as wealthy as you? Men really have no loyalty, do they? If that's the case, I'd rather you stay asleep. At least I won't have to worry about you cheating," Isabella said.
George, lying on the bed, furrowed his brow slightly.
Isabella, glancing back, saw it. She rubbed her eyes hard. 'Did George just move? Did he? It seems like it, right?'
"George, are you waking up? Did you just frown?"
No one answered. Isabella shook George, but he remained still.
'Am I seeing things? It's impossible. He really did move,' she thought.
Isabella ran from the bedroom to the party, grabbing Daniel and pulling him back.
Daniel, almost tripping, asked, "What's the rush?"
"Daniel, George moved. Come and see. He really moved," Isabella said.
A subtle gleam flashed in Daniel's eyes. "Oh, really?"
