Chapter 104 Deserve to Suffer

Ray stood up for Isabella, which really ticked Susan off. She snapped, "Is she really worth it? It's just a minor thing."

"You almost made her lose the baby, and you call that minor?" Ray shot back, fuming.

"She bumped into the table herself. It's her own weak condition. Isn't she just trying to get some money? Just give it to her," Susan said, shrugging it off.

'Does having money mean you can just ignore other people's lives? People like her make me sick,' Ray thought.

"I'm done talking," Ray said, trying to leave, but Susan blocked the door. Fueled by alcohol, she dropped her usual sweet act and asked, "Do you really like Isabella? Ray, everything you have is because of me. Without me, you're nothing."

"Are you threatening me?" Ray sneered.

"Ray, you know what happens if you leave me. It's not worth fighting over Isabella. Whatever you want, I'll give it to you. I just want you to love me."

Susan gently held Ray's hand. She genuinely liked him and was willing to give him everything, even EX Corporation.

Ray smirked. The Susan in front of him was dazzling and alluring, enough to attract any man, but she wasn't what he wanted.

He didn't say anything more, and Susan couldn't read his mind, but she knew Ray wouldn't do anything that would harm his own interests.

While Isabella was in the hospital, Elodie took care of her, and Joshua dropped by occasionally with some fruit or other stuff.

Ray never showed up, which Elodie had a lot to say about.

"Even if he doesn't remember you, you got hurt at his company and almost lost the baby. He doesn't even come to see you. How heartless."

Isabella felt disappointed but didn't complain. After all, Ray was Ray, not George.

"Joshua came, and it's the same," Isabella said.

"You still defend him. People like him deserve to lose their memory and suffer," Elodie huffed.

"Okay, let's just drop it," Isabella said.

Elodie peeled an orange for Isabella and fed her slice by slice. "Isabella, in a few days, I have to go back to Stellaria. Brenda is sick."

"Is it serious?" Isabella asked.

"She needs minor surgery. I have to be with her. I won't be able to take care of you here. How about I hire a nanny for you?" Elodie said, concerned.

Isabella took out her phone and transferred $50,000 to Elodie. "Take this money. If it's not enough, let me know."

"No need, I have money."

"This is my wish, don't argue with me about it. As for the nanny, forget it. You know I don't like trouble." Isabella understood Elodie's concern. Elodie was worried that she might not be back in time, and there would be no one to take care of Isabella when she gave birth.

"Let's hire a nanny. I've already found someone. Take a look." Elodie handed her phone to Isabella and introduced, "Lisa Hall, fifty-five years old, has had children, experienced and very kind. I told her about your situation, and she felt sorry for you."

Isabella glanced at the phone and pushed it back. "There's really no need. I can manage on my own."

"It's settled then. I'll call Lisa in a bit to come over and get familiar with you." Elodie didn't listen to Isabella.

She couldn't be at ease without someone to take care of her.

Two days before Isabella was discharged, Elodie returned to Stellaria, and Lisa came to take over.

Lisa was super kind and from Stellar City, so she and Isabella hit it off right away with their shared accent.

Plus, Lisa made killer soups that Isabella loved.

They got along great, and time flew by.

Isabella went back to work.

But this time, as soon as she walked into the office, she felt all these weird stares. People were whispering and gossiping like there were a ton of secrets about her.

Joshua saw her and called her into his office.

"Joshua, what's going on? Are people still talking about what happened with Susan and me?" she asked.

Joshua looked uncomfortable. After a long pause, he finally said, "The company made a decision while you were in the hospital."

"What decision?" Isabella asked.

"They decided to let you go." Joshua tried to explain, but Isabella cut him off. "This is Ray's decision, right?"

Joshua nodded. "Yeah, he weighed the options and made the call."

"Why?" Isabella was furious.

"It's just a decision. There's no why," Joshua said, looking helpless.

"Just because I had a fight with Susan? I was the one who got hurt, and now you're firing me?" Isabella snapped.

Joshua knew it was unfair, but as an assistant secretary, he couldn't change Ray's mind.

"Ms. Neville..." Joshua tried to console her, but Isabella stormed out and headed straight to Ray's office.

She didn't knock, just barged in and slammed her hand on his desk. "Why are you firing me? Give me a reason."

Ray leaned back, fingers interlaced, looking calm. "What reason do you want?"

"A legitimate one," she demanded.

"I told you during the business trip, you're not a good fit for EX Corporation. Your frequent mistakes are enough reason," Ray said coolly.

"Do you think I believe that? This is because your fiancée had a fight with me and you're mad. You almost made me lose my baby, and now you want to fire me? Are you even human?"

Isabella's anger made her look desperate in front of the calm Ray.

She knew it, but she couldn't help it; she was too angry.

"The company will compensate you for the accident. Your dismissal will follow labor laws, and you'll get an extra six months' salary," Ray said calmly.

Isabella scoffed. "So, I should thank the company for this? You're so generous."

"No need to thank us. I hope you find a good job soon." Ray glanced at Joshua and ordered, "Take Isabella out and process her resignation ASAP."

"Okay."

Isabella threw her work badge onto Ray's desk. "Do you think I was happy working here? I wanted to leave a long time ago."

Isabella wanted to cry and even wanted to trash Ray's office.

But she couldn't. She couldn't afford it.

It was fine. She was about to have a baby anyway. Even if they wanted her to work, she wouldn't.

After leaving EX Corporation, Isabella wandered over to Keith's studio.

What used to seem like a long distance was now just a walk away.

Keith was busy framing a painting for a customer. When he saw Isabella, he was surprised and asked, "What brings you here?"
