Chapter 10 I Like You So Much

"Hey, can you go pay the fee first?" The nurse handed the slip to Elodie.

Elodie passed the wheelchair to Isabella.

Isabella pushed Nathan towards the ward, the air thick with tension.

Nathan was Elodie's brother. He'd known Isabella since high school and liked her, but never confessed.

Nathan knew Isabella liked him too.

But before anything could happen, Isabella married into the Spencer family.

"I heard you got married?" Nathan asked.

Isabella paused, then nodded, "Yeah."

"Isabella, I'll work hard and cure Oliver's illness," Nathan said, getting emotional.

"Nathan, we never had an agreement. You don't need to feel guilty," Isabella replied calmly.

"But I like you, and you like me too. Why did you marry him?" Nathan hit the wheelchair in frustration. "You can't ruin your life. Let's take Oliver and go abroad. We'll find good doctors. I won't let them control your freedom."

"Nathan, calm down. This was my choice. I don't regret it. You don't need to feel guilty or responsible. Focus on getting better and don't worry Elodie." Isabella helped Nathan into the ward and got him settled. Elodie returned after paying the fee and noticed their tense expressions.

"Should I leave for a bit?" Elodie asked.

"Elodie, your brother's fine. I should go; it's getting late," Isabella said.

"Isabella." Nathan got anxious, almost falling off the bed.

Elodie helped him sit up and scolded, "Isabella will come back. You're injured, don't move around."

Isabella glanced at Nathan, "Take care. I'll visit another day."

Elodie followed Isabella out. She knew the unspoken feelings between Isabella and Nathan.

"Isabella, the doctor said they called you first when my brother had the accident, but you didn't answer. That's why they called me. Nathan actually..." Elodie started.

"Elodie, you know my situation. Tell Nathan not to dwell on it. The Spencer family isn't easy to deal with." Isabella lowered her eyes, "We didn't act on our feelings before, and we won't now."

Elodie sighed, worried, "I'm afraid he likes you too much and might do something foolish."

"Feelings that never started don't mean much. Nathan might feel some regret, but he'll get over it," Isabella said.

'I'm the same,' Isabella thought. 'But what else can I do besides bury it?'

The taxi stopped at The Spencer Manor. Isabella paid the fare and got out, startled to see John at the entrance.

"What are you doing here?" Isabella asked, patting her chest.
