Stranger
Trista’s point of view.
“Ladies and gentlemen, United Airlines welcomes you to Chicago. The Local time is 6:20 PM CDT. For your safety….”
The flight attendant announced while I continued to dial Leonard’s phone number.
I couldn’t wait to surprise Leonard because we’ve been apart for a month. He wasn’t picking up my calls, so the next plan was to go over to his apartment…
Within twenty minutes I arrived at his place, filled with excitement, I made sure to compose myself before ringing the doorbell. After two rings, I got no reply and at this point, I was standing on my toes, with the worst of thoughts running through my mind.
What if he was dead? What if he got stuck in there or something? So many ugly ideas ran through my mind until I remembered that I had a spare key to his apartment.
I began to rummage through my purse, till I finally found the key. I opened the door and walked in.
I was about to call out to him when I heard strange noises coming from his bedroom. I didn’t need any interpreter to tell me that these were voices of two people, more like moans of people having sex.
My body began to shake and beads of sweat fell from my forehead, even my toes curled up inside my shoes. I slowly walked up to the door and pressed my ear into it for further conviction.
At this point drops of tears began to fall from my eyes. I couldn’t take it anymore, I knew I had to get out of there before I would burst into a million pieces but my hands had other plans, I subconsciously held onto the knob of the door with a shaky hand and pushed it open.
My eyes were greeted with a brunette bouncing on my supposed boyfriend like a crazy whore. They seemed to be having so much fun, as Leonard was using both of his hands to fondle her big boobs.
“Who is that lady? Is she supposed to be part of the fun?” The brunette asked Leonard, as he immediately turned to my direction.
“What the fuck!” He screamed and pushed her off him as fast as lightning. “Tri- Trista- I can ex- explain. It’s not what it seems like,” he lied while struggling to find his trousers.
On the other hand, the slut seemed pissed from the way Leonard had tossed her out to the floor. She tried complaining but the look on Leonard’s voice was enough to silence her.
“That’s your money on the table, take it and get the fuck out of here!” He ordered her. I felt so disgusted at the sight of all this, I wanted to leave but I just couldn’t. Maybe I was waiting for an excuse to not break up with him, maybe I was waiting to take in all his lies like I used to.
The bitch was now in her underwear, she picked up her dress and rushed to grab her money, as she began walking towards me or rather, towards the exit.
Just when I thought she was going to walk past me, she stopped by my side and whispered, “If this cock of a man is your boyfriend, then I advise you to dump his sorry ass. He called you a dumb bitch when you continuously rang his line.” With this said, she immediately ran off.
I didn’t want to believe what she said but how on earth would she have known I was calling him? I needed to accept the reality, Leonard was always going to see me as a dumb bitch.
“It’s over!” I blurted out, while the sorry excuse of a boyfriend who was still searching for his clothes, stopped all he was doing and started walking to me but I wasn’t going to give him the benefit of lying to me anymore.
I turned around and took to my heel, finally getting out of his apartment.
“Trista, hold up,” I heard his voice from behind, and that was when it dawned on me that he was following me. “I can explain, just hear me out.”
I remained silent and continued to walk as fast as possible while hoping to get a taxi.
“Fuck Trista, I said you should fucking hold up and hear me out,” he screamed and grabbed my elbow, putting me to a stop.
“Let me be, for crying out loud, we are done.”
“And who the fuck do you think you are to decide that? You are following me back into the house this minute.”
How could he be this audacious? Of course, I knew I was dating a spoiled brat and a man who believed that there was no consequence for any of his actions but how could he be this inconsiderate and heartless?
“I caught you cheating and the best thing you can do is throw orders at me?” I let out with a look of disdain.
He shrugged his shoulders, “You can’t blame me Tri, you were gone for a month, what did you have me do?”
I slapped the left side of his face as hard as I could and the sound echoed in the room.
“Get away from me or I am going to scream and call attention to us,” I threatened but he didn’t seem to be moved. “I am being serious right now, this is not your dumb bitch talking. It will not be a good look for a man of your standing in the society to be all over the news because of this.”
He began to retreat, “You know what bitch? Fuck you. I know you are gonna be back real soon. You can’t do without me, no matter how much you try. Besides, your dad disowned you, you have nobody but me!”
The tears I was holding back, started falling off again.
I turned around angrily and began to run, while pulling out my phone to put a call across to my father.
To my greatest shock, he picked on the first ring. I had
expected him not to.
Before he could say anything, I spoke, the tears making it hard to form words. “You were right, Dad. Leonard was never good for me. You were right about everything. I'm sorry for not listening to you.”
As the daughter of the CEO of one of the biggest companies in the country, I was next in line to own the company but I gave it all up for the man I loved.
Leonard was the sweetest man I ever met, gentle and convincing without being pushy. He told me everything I wanted to hear which made it very easy to fall in love with him.
He was perfect to me but there was one big problem stopping me from fulfilling my dream; my father.
Dad didn’t like him. In fact, the very first time I introduced Leonard to my father, he brutally rejected our union, claiming that Leonard wasn’t good for me.
But he was right though, Leonard wasn't good for me. He had used me and abandoned me when I served no purpose to him anymore, I mean a broke heiress who was abandoned by her family because she chose to Love a stranger.
