5. New Packs (Sol Pov)
Sol POV
Kimi, Quienten, and I had formed a new pack, a pack of three. It was depressing and without fanfare. That was the last day I cried. I refused to do it anymore. Quienten had stopped after a month his tears like mine refused to fall anymore. Once the new pack was formed, me being the new alpha, I instructed Kimi to go to the north. I needed to know if that is where we should flee. I didn’t know if we were being hunted or not. I doubted it considering nothing had happened to us yet.
If Ben wanted to come after me, shouldn’t he have already? My mother always told me to pray to the goddess, but I couldn’t bring myself to. Everything I was raised to believe in was gone. The goddess always protected Shadow Pack, because of my mother and her dedication. But she hadn’t and now it was gone, and I just couldn’t bring myself to pray to her. Quienten and I both had veered away from prayer or anything that may resemble it.
We limited running as wolfs in the woods, hunting was also on hold until we knew if we were being hunted ourselves. Though neither of us really wanted to be in our wolf form. It would give us too much time in our own heads and neither of us I think was prepared for that. So, it was short runs and short training in wolf form and then back to being human. “You really should get bangs.” Quienten said as he threw himself on one of the couches.
“I will not, unless we know are being hunted.” I was adamant on this. I loved my forehead tattoo. It was my mother’s and Her's before her. “I am just saying, it would be a good disguise no one would recognize you with bangs covering it.” He said referring to that tattoo. “Plus, you would look cute with bangs.” I rolled my eyes at my cousin. “I will do that when you cut your hair short.” I heard him scoff and I smirked.
I could tell he was upset about something, but there was something to always be upset about now a days. “What’s up Quienten?” I asked hopefully he would share. “Shadow pack is really gone now.” What did he mean, more importantly how did he know? “I heard back from someone I met this summer.” I smirked. Of course, I knew who he was talking about. He went to one of the matting balls and of course he met a girl there.
She was too young for a mate, but I think he kind of had a thing for the girl. “Well go on, tell me what Belle told you.” I could see his tan cheeks get a little pink at the mention of her name. “They are now calling themselves Witchwood Pack or just Witchwood, on account of their new Luna.” My brows came together. “What?” I didn’t get it. “Ben went and married a witch apparently.” I busted out laughing at the absurdity of it all.
Ben marrying a witch, yeah right. He was not so stupid to go and do that, or maybe this woman was some kind of low-level naturalist human, they loved to claim they were witches, but everyone knew they just loved nature, the more modern hippie if you will. I ended up getting a hold of myself to say, “Well at least we were more original in our pack name.” I mumbled about it only being the three of us.
“You got that right Blood Born Pack.” He said and I smiled. That we were, formed from the blood of our loved ones. “Anyways did Belle say anything else?” I asked and he nodded and disclosed “She said that her father has formed good ties with them.” Okay none of this would be helpful really. “Do you know if they are hunting us?” He shook his head. “No, that is what I wanted to tell you.”
Okay I was not following. Quienten spoke again “She didn’t at first remember me and then I began to tell her about what we talked about when I met her, and she still didn’t remember but she still wanted to email with me. But the strangest thing is when she asked her father about us.” I cut him off “She what? Quientin we are supposed to stay under the radar, my goddess, I told you that, the only reason we even attend school still is to stop us from falling apart.” Quienten interjected as I began to rant “Sol, just listen.” I nodded giving him room to speak. “She brought us up and her father and he too seemed to just not hear her or something. She tried again to see if he would tell her anything, but nothing registered to him with of you or me, when she said our names.”
I was staring at him, what did that even mean. “Her father is Alpha Braden, correct?” I asked and he nodded. I had met him this last summer in person. He would know who I was and certainly who Quienten was considering he spent time with his daughter. This just made no sense. Could this be the work of the Goddess? I only spent a second on that thought before I pushed it away. I refused to rationalize that, “fine, so he forgot us.” He went to say something, and I held up my hand. My phone was vibrating telling me it was time to leave so I wouldn’t be late for class.
“Look if you can get more information, great but there is not much we can do with this information I said grabbing my bag and headed to the door. “Wait Sol” Quienten said, and I stopped and turned to him. “Do you think none of them remember us?” My brows came together but shook off the wave of intuition and feelings I had. “Of course not, we grew up with those at this so-called Witchwood Pack. They wouldn’t forget us maybe just Belle and her dad did, maybe we were not memorable.” I said and walked out of the door.
I felt horrible I said that to Quienten. He was memorable. But I didn’t know why those two had no knowledge of us. It seemed strange. If it had been the goddess who wiped their memory it would explain why no one had come after us. “No” I yelled at myself as I started my SUV. I refused to think she did favors. She could have saved my pack and didn’t so no I would not start giving into this fantasy that she would actually aid me or mine in any way.
